I thought I'd share these pictures I took of the baby birds in a nest beside our house.  They are brown thrashers.

These pics were taken within 24 hours of hatching:

Today's pics (3 days old):

Is that the momma in the second picture? She looks like she is about to kill you!!

Great pictures though. I love seeing the growth of things.

I am assuming that is Mama, but I may have the genders backwards.  She definitely did not like being photographed.    Daddy bird chirps threateningly at me when I go over there.  He flits around and puffs his chest at me, but he hasn't attacked.  Mama bird just gives me the evil eye.

Love the pics and video! Thanks for sharing. What kind of other birds do you get in your area?

We have a thistle feeder, and get a few different types of song sparrows, morning doves and finches. Hummingbirds like our yucca flowers, and mockingbirds hang out in our neighbor's tree. A little further out of town, there's hawks, quails and roadrunners (beep beep!).

We have more varieties of birds in my neighborhood that I have ever seen before.  We have 2 or 3 types of hummingbirds, sparrows, 2 types of finch, mockingbirds, robins, blue jays, blue birds, brown thrashers, orioles, cardinals, and others.  I love watching them.

We have had finches and sparrows nest around our house where we could watch them every year, but this is the first batch of Brown Thrashers we've had.  They are very reclusive birds, so it is unusual to see their nest up close like this.

Way cool, sounds like lots of birding fun! I almost forgot, we do have blue birds up in Mt. Charleston, about 40 minutes away.
