In T minus 7 days....![]() Remember back to school when you were a kid and your parents were all happy and you never knew why? Yeah..... Anyway...I miss the school days...all the new pencils and pens and notebooks and...lunchboxes!!! OMG, my favorite thing to get was the lunchbox. My eldest is too old for the character ones...and they're NOTHING like the ones WE had as kids. My youngest (bless his heart) still loves last years' lunchbox and backpack: Spiderman...so he saved me some cash...spent on cool "light up" sneakers for him. I remember I had a Raggedy Ann and Andy one...for years (we were not burdened with money when I was a kid and I didn't mind "repeating" as my youngest doesn't) What're your favorite back to school memories? |

I remember that the first day of school was one of the only two days my desk was clean. The first day it was waiting for all my crap to be stuffed inside, corking the smell of old sandwiches and snacks packed WAYYYYY in the back, the other day was the last day of scholl when I would drag a trash can over to the desk and empty it out for the next poor bastard. I also remember scrubbing said desk with "bab-o" to remove all the scrolling and notes off of it for the next in line to make a mess of it all over again. I remember looking foward to robbing snacks off of lunch trays from the weak kids ( most kids ). I can't say I miss those days as much as being carefree BEFORE school, when the biggest decision of the day was if I wanted to ride my bike, big wheel, scooter, home made go-kart ( powered by someone behind it pushing ) or just play in the dirt in the yard with what seemed like an endless supply of toys. Don't get me wrong, there was always the "I gotta have it" toy that I , well , HAD TO HAVE ( not unlike more recent decades in the gun stores ). Somehow, through it all........I still found the need to bury dad's tools and mom's silverware in the dirt. But as far as going back to school goes and fond memories, the absolute coolest thing for me had to be.............new sneakers. I would trade an awful lot to be at the age when you got new sneaks and went directly out into the street running like lightning SWEARING you could run faster, jump higher, kick better and so on. Going to school was like a sneaker show the first couple of days, until the newness would wear off and everyone stepped on eachother's toes to dirty the new skips. |

My favorite school memories? Playing jump rope all through recess Playing kick ball or dodge ball getting new sneakers and new shiny dress shoes passing notes in class to my friends When I lost one of my tooth in 1st grade on the playground and my teacher, Mrs. Peterson wrote a note to the tooth fairy so I could still get my dime! Woo Hoo! A whole dime! Sneaking around the backside of the school out of teacher's site during recess to kiss the boys ! Ahhhh! Those were the days! |
Never had a guy teacher?? |
The day I graduated High School, I knew I would never need to put up with that preppy, clique waste of my time ever ever again. I kinda enjoyed my Sr year of HS but other than that I HATED school. It was such a waste of my time. Was not challenging to me, and I learned very little. (In HS at least) It very much was for the lowest common denominator, and while I'm no brain giant I'm WELL above the lowest common denominator. |

Great idea for a thread! Best memories seem to all be during my Elementary School years: new school supplies, seeing friends I hadn't seen all summer, new clothes, etc. I loved school! And of course, playing cops and robbers with the boys ETA: Giving the bully on the bus a bloody nose in Elementary School! |
So, did you always play the cop in school? |
Almost always |

+1 on the lunch box PMM I had a tin one and it lasted me from kindergarten through 2nd grade I think. I also remember slumber parties as well. my first one to attend was in 1st grade it was a blast. we all went to chuckie cheese and then spent the night over at the birthday girl's house. we watched earnest scared stupid... lol good times. I also remember probably from about the age of 10 -14 my best friend and I use to call each other every morning around 6:30 to find out what the other was wearing to school that day. lol we were kind of uppity I guess back then. |

I had a Hong Kong Fuey lunch box. I loved that lunch box. But no matter how hard you tried, you couldn't get the smell of sour milk out of them. I loved playing jumprope or Red Rover at Recess. Or trying to do gymnastics. I was the best at jumprope. THE BEST! I loved doing the SRA in class during quiet time. I always finished my colors faster than anyone else and moved on to the higher, more difficult colors. anyone else ever have SRA in school? they were cards in a box, each level a different color, and you had to read the story, then answer the questions. New school supplies. My favorite things. I loved my Trapper Keeper more than life itself. |
We played Dodgeball, but for some reason, in RI, they call it "scatter." I was evil at scatter. EEEEE-VIL. ![]() It was fun watching the bully boys run when I had the ball in my hands.... Never did SRA...we DID have "Phonics," though. And Penmanship. Yeah...I went to Catholic school...we had Penmanship. I think that's why to this day my handwriting is a mess of printing/cursive/hieroglyphics.

I wouldn't have missed you For the most part, my targets were the bullies. And most of them were the boys and the snooty girls. Great fun. |
Oh, I got hit just about every time... eventually. It was fun. |
