Over the past few weeks I believe someone has been coming into my backyard. The fence gate was left open (no way for it to open on its own) and then the other day I found some human hair stuck in the gate. I have a large tree that is approximately 30 feet from the gate that would be perfect to mount a camera on. I am thinking an infrared game camera would be good as it could take night pictures without alerting the intruder. Any thoughts?

Long blond?  Screw the camera, wait it out at the base of the tree with some Smirnoff ice.

Already got the Boones Farm. At least I know it isn't a young Obama or one of his sons.

I finally bit the bullet and starting putting in security cameras at my house.

About $350 gets you 4 cameras with IR night vision.

The sky is the limit on the top end and there's tons of info in the armory section under home security.

I bought an awesome little replacement camera for work for $45 last Friday from a little Chinese man at 311computer.net . It's in East Dallas.

Yes, there is.

But for a temporary install, some sort of game-cam is probably a good idea.

I've been having pretty good luck with the Moultrie M990I cameras I purchased about a month ago for the same reason. They take usable pictures at night out to about 40 feet, more under the right circumstances.

Picked them up on Amazon.

Man, I never knew there was a home security section. I usually don't scroll past Shotguns in the armory tab.

Thanks for the suggestion joemama and others. I think I might just grab a game camera.

Thats actually one I was looking at. Infrared will be good so that nobody will be able to see the flash.

BTW,

Just wanted to thank you for all of the time and effort that went into your CCTV thread.  I learned a lot and will be adding to my existing game cameras with decent surveillance system.

FYI

There is a faint red flash on the 990I.  It's only noticeable at about 5' when you are looking right at the camera when the flash goes off.  There is also an faint audible click as the camera takes it's first night and day picture.  This has not been an issue for me though.

Depending on what you want to spend; These high end game cameras will text you photos in real time, as events unfold, if you pay for a texting cellular plan for them.

One of my co-workers has a few of them on his hunting lease 2 hours away, all day at work; brreep: " Whoa! lookit that buck under my treestand!"

Might be useful if you wanted to catch someone.....

Good to know that. I might put it a little high in the tree looking down towards the fence and the ground and hope that they either don't hear it, don't know what it is, or don't have the time to climb up and steal it.

Haha I will look into those. I thought about one that would send it to your email or phone but didn't know if any would do that. I wonder if there would be any that would connect to your home network as the tree is easily within range as it is a small lot. Then again that feature isn't likely in a game camera. That is more of a surveillance type camera feature.
