I'm in the prosses of building a backyard range, I am getting 16 dumptruck loads of clay brought in this month, and the backhoe is going to stack it to about 12-15 ft.
I will be able to shoot to 150 yds.

will be shooting up to .308, mainly .22

I'm am looking for good idea's to make it cooler, funner, better, etc.
Does anyone have anything unusual on your range.

I'm espsecially looking for good permenant targets

Thanks

WHen I had my own range, I just built a wall with old RR ties up to shoulder high, and backfilled it with dirt.  Staple targets right to it.  There was over a mile of nothing behind it, then a road, then more miles of nothing.

I miss those days.

You can setup a "gong" of thick steal.  Or just small thick plates to shoot/  Doing this will let you hear when you hit, instead of having the setup paper targets and a scope.

I bought a couple portable gongs to use at my gun club. There are 3 different sizes and it's alot more fun than walking back and forth to check targets

+1 these work great and are very cheap. Make them so that the actual "plate" of steel is hanging so when you shoot it it will move. You will put less holes in them this way.

Usually the Indy 1500 gun show has a guy who makes "gong" type targets from boiler plate slugs.  They are nice to shoot over and over without having to do anything.  Cheap too.

Make the dirt pile in a horseshoe type fashion. Plant trees along the side and on the back side of the backstop
