I'm in need of a good marine style battery to serve dual purpose with a winch on a car trailer and with the winch on my Jeep. I'll likely do a dual battery setup for the Jeep, but right now the winch will primarily share time between two trailers.
I came across a deal on an Optima Blue Top D31M battery, specs are 1125 MCA, 900 CCA, and RC of 155. Its a new battery, never been out of the store, but has a manufacture date of 5/13. I can get the battery for half price, but the question is, is it worth it? I can get a similar marine battery (non AGM) for less than $100 that has a current DOM, is the Optima worth basically $40 more? Also, would you be worried about buying a battery that was almost 1 year old, even if it hasn't been used? Finally, other than the ability to mount in any position, any other benefit to the Optima? |
