Any one else here keep honeybees as a hobby/bussiness? I've kept bees for about 8 years. Its nice to have a hobby that helps to pay for itself.

About the same as mine.  A hive could fit nicely in the far corner of my yard.

You best be up on the bee mites or you won't have any bees.

Nooooo! You have no idea what you've done 13er. Soon he'll be in here going on and on about Ron Paul and the Mary Jane. God help us for the wrath that we are about to incur.

On a more serious note I am just getting into this as the next step in our hobby farm evolution so I am interested in this thread.

Face your hive away from your yard so they don't use your yard as a runway. It also gets them up and out of your yard very well. They don't mind too much what's going on in their back yard or behind their hive. You almost never see them there.

I've got 5 hives on 10 acres of property. 4 of the 5 made it through the winter. I also do swarm removal, sell honey and teach beekeeping classes at the local nature center

Never raised them but robbed many a wild one.  Number one rule never squash a bee.
