Should Ben Bernanke be confirmed for another four year term as Fed Chairman?

The White House is pushing hard for him to get another term, but in the past Obama has said the TARP program was poorly written and implemented. Bernanke was one of the authors of the TARP bill, and Obama voted for it.

No, but it really will not matter who is in there.  Results will be the same.

I dont of any conservative economists that would ever be brought in by this administration, so I dont know that it matters.

He failed to increase interest rates during the housing bubble...

If he goes, the market will tank, because they lose their insider and have to retrain somebody to keep the extend and pretend program going.

He'll simply be replaced with another clone, so it doesn't really matter.

Senator Obama voted for "Yes" it.

President Obama has been overseeing its implementation for the past year.
FUCK OBAMA and his adolescent excuses.

I think Ben Bernake has done quite enough already.

I don't really understand why people want to get rid of him.  I believe he was a much better person to have been head of the Fed than Greenspan would have been during this crisis - because of his particular expertise on the great depression.  A lot of the things that people are really unhappy about are things that were implemented by the administrations (Bush and Obama), or things that Treasury were in charge of, not the Fed.  While I don't think Bernanke is the greatest thing since sliced bread, as far as I can tell, he's a smart guy and has done a reasonably good job (to the extent that we even can know), and I see no compelling reason to mess with the Fed leadership right now.

The problem is that the fed is enabling the actions of the administration.  If they wanted to actually be independent I would expect the fed to tell congress and Obama that they aren't funding their activities any longer.
