Semi-automatic weapons ok in countryside, but not cities - March 3, 2013
Appearing on Glenn Beck's radio show this past week, Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn't be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.

Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: "There's a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons."

But when asked whether people should be allowed to own "semi-automatic weapons," the doctor replied: "It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I'm afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it," Carson elaborated. However, if you live "out in the country somewhere by yourself" and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, "I've no problem with that."

To be fair, he's also made PRO gun statements, but I'll never understand exactly What part of "shall not be infringed" is so hard for people running for political office?

I like to know which side a politician is on regarding gun control, but I do not vote based on that.  The reason being Gun Rights are almost always decided by The People, via protests or lengthy campaigns to restore rights.  The three branches of government usually have to follow along with those demands.  The main example here being 8yrs of an administration that really wants to ban guns, yet has been totally impotent to do so.  If Obama couldn't ban them, Carson won't touch the subject.  Anybody who responds to "f- him, he's dead to me" is missing the larger picture here.

I vote based on economic reasoning, whether a pol wants to go to war for profit or true defense, and whether a pol's platforms will make people more free or less free.  Gun control is low on my list anymore.

Dr Carson seems like a good guy, I would trust my brain in his hands (literally). But running a nation of 300,000,000 people is out of his wheelhouse.

Many very gifted people are pretty much like that outside of their field of expertise.

I have had a lot of very successful, well regarded professionals (Doctors, attorneys, CEOs) as clients. All are very gifted in their chosen profession, most are utter morons when they swerve out of their lane.

The ones I don't mind are the ones that will acknowledge it. Unfortunately, some fancy themselves as experts of all things. Those are very, very annoying people to deal with professionally.

I feel the same way about Ben Carson, but I'm pretty sure I've heard him say on more than one occasion that he's not an expert on guns, or many other things, but that he plans to surround himself with knowledgeable people.  I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.  Trump on the other hand, strikes me the other type.  His campaign manager already quit saying that he wouldn't listen and that he's delusional.

He needs to educate himself on firearms. I like Carson but he has absolutely no clue whatsoever what he's talking about when someone brings up guns. He has no business even opening his mouth about it.

Just say "Hell if I know. I'll get back to you on that." He needs to remember that by ignorantly flapping his lips and spouting nonsense he's being mighty cavalier with Americans' 2A rights.

Ben Carson is one of those guys who is so smart that he is stupid.  I've dealt with many like him.  He was a democrat until his 30's and he just became a registered republican in November of 2014.  He only changed his mind on gun control because his ideas caused an uproar among republicans.  I posted all of his previous comments about gun control in a previous thread with links to sources.  He wrote about gun control in his book and mentioned it in interviews in the last two years.  It just took awhile for people to point it out.

Boy, not sure why that made me think of Trump.

I wonder== if Scott Walker announced that because he'd been successful at running the state of Wisconsin, therefore he could be a success at running a multi billion dollar real estate empire, would The Donald respond?
