I'm looking for a new folder knife. I had a Kershaw cheapy knife that I abused the shit out of but I really liked the spring assist blade. It seems Benchmade is all the rage now so I was looking into their products. Do they offer a knife that is assisted open comparable to Kershaw knives? Some of the gold class knives looked really nice. I dont want to spend over $400 on a knife that is used and abused as a tool. Any suggestions?

I'd prefer to have an auto opening knife but I guess its illegal? I fail to see that logic but oh well.

Thanks for the tips!

the Benchmade 580 Barrage is spring assisted, and a great knife if you need assisted openers.

Autos aren't illegal in many states now.

Benchmade makes several assisted opening knives. On Benchmade's website there is a knife wizard that will let you search by the features you want.

That's encouraging, I'll have to check my states laws (TX). I'll give the wizard a look. Theres so many choices it was overwhelming at first. I'm not a big knife guy. I have some Knives of Alaska knives which I love but they dont seem to offer much in terms of folders as far as options go.

5220 Auto Presidio is my go-to.  It's a little bit larger than what it seems like most people carry, but I love it.

Legal in the state doesn't automatically include each city or exclude .fed guidlines.  That's why I can't send my auto in and expect to get it back.

Mini barrage is also, love that knife.  Not too big, not too small.

autos are legal in texas, provided they don't qualify as an illegal knife

My EDC.  Well, mine doesn't look that pretty.  It goes everywhere I go, including the ocean.

There's just something about a knife so bad ass it needs a safety.

Well, thanks to Doug Ritter and his organization Knife Rights - Tenneesee passed State preemption. Meaning everyone follows state law. No more city laws that are more restrictive that the state law. I'm not sure if Texas did too.

ETA:

Here's an update about Texas' laws.

Sorry, no preemption yet for Texas.

Yeah, autos are legal now in TX. I get to carry mine regularly now. I really want to get a non-auto with the axis lock though.
