The older version of this was the golden standard in the auto shops. | Opinions on these? I always thought that they would be more trouble than they're worth (plus having to store a dirty, oily tool), but It would make changing the oil on my wife's Mercedes stupid easy (compared to jacking the car up and removing the plastic cover). |

Not more trouble but will have to store an oily tool. Good thing the oily part is contained on the inside, just wipe down the outside. I think it’s a useful tool. I went with Mityvac, not many options when I got mine. |

It is easy to empty and tranfer the oil to a 5gal can which after other changes goes to parts store for recycle |

The line lengths seem to be a bit short to me most of the time, it seems like most want you to stick it in the engine bay or radiator top as the lengths really don't allow for insertion and placing the container on the ground. |

I've got a Pela PL-650 that is 20yrs old. I'm just a home user, not a pro. But it still works like the day I bought it. But they are now $125+ I did topside oil changes on my 2000 VW Golf TDI for 300,000 miles because I put a skid plate on it. Then on my Chevy Cruze Diesel and wife's mini van. I've sucked diesel out of the generator tank. Old Gas (not recommended) from mowers/gocarts/chainsaws. Tranny Fluid out through the dipstick for a refresh. I even sucked water out of the Jeep floormats because the hard top leaked. Very handy to have. |

I have had one for quite awhile and it comes in handy on occasion. But I could never get enough of the old oil out of any of our vehicles to satisfy me. Plus it is slow a bit aggravating at times. So I don’t use it for that. I have used it to pump in transmission fluid and differential fluid. I do use it to vacuum the oil out of my 90 horse outboard to reduce the mess but I still pull the drain plug to get what ever is left after pumping. Attached File |

I've been using the Mityvac brand for many years. There is a problem with them though that the seals they use STILL DON'T FUCKING WORK WITH SYNTHETIC OIL. Well, they work a few times then the seals break down. Basically you need to clean all the oil residue out of the contraption every time or you will only get maybe 2 years out of them. Just out of warranty. I recently put fumoto valves on the cars. Still using the Mityvac for lawnmowers and transmission fluid in cars. |

I need to get a better container but I made one myself with a vacuum pump I had laying around. I needed to get a bunch of hydraulic fluid out of my lift and used 5 gallon buckets which aren't nearly rigid enough but got the job done. Cost me nothing because I had all the parts laying around. I had one of those but the power cable got so hot it was on the verge of melting and I had to hold it up from anything important in the engine bay. I got it to replace my Pela PL-6000 extractor which had finally worn out. For OP, that's a great extractor, but probably doesn't meet the reasonably priced criteria. Fortunately my new vehicles have a drain plug in an easy spot and I don't need them anymore |

I own this one also. Works great, used to use a vacuum pump, which sucked poorly. My golf cart has a shield under the engine, getting to and using the drain plug would be difficult. |
