I have a 1996 Honda 300 TRX. Still on the original spark plug. Starts every time. All the time. Even after sitting for months. It's not even a debate. HONDA. Imalso have that same 96 300, its got every bolt on avalible and runs like a beast. Even snorkle it from time to time to go oit with my buddys. My first thoiht for him was a 400ex or the newer 450. But as you stated. Honda all the way. As long as you dont open that engine up, ot will run forever. |

Hard to beat Honda and Yamaha for utility, hunting and farm use. I'm a big fan of the Yamaha brand. We have an older 2001 Big Bear 400 4wd and a smaller 2006 Bruin 250 2wd We use them on our small farm all year long. The Big Bear even pulls a heavy self powered bush hog in the summer. Never had one bit of trouble out of them, they start right up, use no oil and they still run like new. I see a lot of older (pre 2000) ATVs on the trails and farms around here, almost all of them are Honda and Yamaha's.People seem to have pretty good luck with Suzuki and Kawasaki ATVs as well.
My personal experience is many Polaris ATV owners seem to have more problems compared to the other brands. Polaris makes a good looking machine and they are very powerful and fast, but some seem to have quality issues. |

Honda and Polaris owner here. Polaris wins between the two, all day everyday and twice on Sunday. Also the Polaris has been more, wait for it, reliable.
If I was buying new, Id only be looking at Polaris or Can Am. I will say I dont know Yamaha, but ride with some Brute Force guys and even they think the Polaris is better. |

I took a look at a Polaris sportsman 570 and I liked it. I might schedule a test drive after I visit my local Honda dealer and look around. I have plenty of use for one. You ask for the best, then look at the worst...
lolpoolaris junk My thoughts exactly. |

2002 Yamaha Grizzly 650. It has over seven thousand miles on it and has never let me down. When this grizzly gets passed on, I wil buy another one with out a doubt. I just hung the snow plow blade on for our in pending winter storm her e in the mountain west. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Ok, so you're looking for a workhorse utility quad. Polaris is generally thought to be one of the least reliable quads, so you're on the wrong track. Stick to the Big4, IMHO. I had a Honda Rubicon and while not the biggest displacement quad it was a solid, no-fuss work machine and the build quality was excellent. Very strong for a 500cc. I worked mine very hard and it never failed me. Superb transmission, too. |

2007 Suzuki Eiger here. I probably got the deal of the year at $2800 for perfect plastics and 376 miles on a 2007 model. I originally was set on a foot shift. Now having the CVT, I'm glad I went that route. Only time I really want for power steering is when I'm one handing it because my 4 year old daughter is riding with me. For 376cc, it has plenty of grunt for my needs around the homestead. |

I have a 2004 Eiger. Mine doesn't have a CVT, but I'm OK with that. . Got it used but practically new in 2005 for $2500. It's been a good quad for the most part. Agreed on the power, it has plenty. One thing to watch for, although maybe it didn't affect your year. The stators on the early Eigers commonly fail; the magnets are basically glued on to a rotor and the whole thing comes apart. I had it happen to me. Suzuki sells a replacement part, redesigned so that can't happen. |
| I have a 2000 arctic crap 300. Has been problematic since day one. Last year I bought a Honda rancher 420. Last week my son and I took a 30 mile ride at Burning Rock outside of Beckley. We had a great time. I would buy another Honda. Never will buy another arctic crap. |

Side by side! Preferably a Honda or JD They can go anywhere a 4 wheeler can and do every sort of "work" task better I wouldn't count on it going everywhere a quad can go, but having a bed would be nice for work tasks for sure. Just for riding, I personally greatly prefer a quad over a SxS; I think they're more comfortable. |

Perfect for hunting, working around the property and all around cruising. Not the fastest, but a beast. |

lolpoolaris junk My thoughts exactly. This, from a former Polaris owner. Get whichever one you like that says Honda on the side. |
