Looking for a new OBD2 reader. Thinking of getting a Bluetooth one but not sure where to start or which app I should be looking at.
Thoughts?

I bought an ELM327 from Amazon ($10.00) 3 years ago and use it for my 3 BMWs with the paid Torque App and TrackAddict for OBD2 video overlays.

Happy with the setup.

Utra Gauge. I don't know it it is the best, but I ws real happy with the last one I had.

I let it go with the car as my next one is OBD.........................1.

Mine was wired, but I see their new models are Bluetooth.

I have the same one and use it with the free app. Has served me well so far for just diagnosing stuff like someone forgot to screw the gas cap on, and your driver side cat is plugged up, etc.

Well, I spend more time clearing my Secondary Air Pump codes on my 2003 with the setup than doing anything fun.  Oh well.

I bought an ELM327 from eBay a few weeks back that I use with Forscan. I also bought an on-on micro switch to mod into the ELM327 so that I can switch between MSCAN and HSCAN. I've been happy using Forscan, was able to install a factory Ford trailer brake into my F150 and then flash the PCM to turn it on myself. I also used it to turn on the courtesy wipe mode for the wipers.

I tried a generic ELM style reader (BAFX) for a while, but ended up getting a Scantool OBDLink LX bluetooth reader for the long haul.  It samples faster & powers itself down after 15 minutes of non-use. It doesn't have the occasional random lockups I ran into with the BAFX.    I use the Torque Pro app on a dedicated LG smartphone (w/ no cellulalr access) for tracking real time readings in the 2015 Golf TDI, things like EGT, DPF back pressure, boost, fuel flow, etc.   I set a software trigger to show when a regen is in progress as an on-screen indicator light.

I use some generic one I got off Ebay for $10. It reads & clears codes.....Is there something else it should do?  It reads the codse & look in the book or vehicle specific search on the web.

I got a BAFX one off amazon and an extension cord.   I use the Torque app, I'm happy with the set up.

I went the ELM327 and OBD Fusion route.  I'm happy with the setup, but I haven't used other apps so I really have nothing to compare it to.

This is what I use:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NLQAHS?tag=vglnk-c102-20  With the Torque Pro app.  It works well.

Do any of these read A/F ratios or do more that just read/clear a code? I have a lean condition on bank 1 and 2 so it's either MAF or fuel supply. My scan app won't read and deeper. Doesn't even do fuel consumption

As I said above,Ultra-Gauge

More than just a code reader.

I love mine.

Granted, the truck is all stock but it is nice to be able to show data that the stock gauges don't and be able to read/clear codes.
And it turns on/off with the truck, no fiddling with my phone or a tablet.

If you have a ford, FORscan on a laptop with a USB ELM327 &. MS CAN switch will let you do everything IDS can do on pre 2015 cars.  If you are talking 2015 and newer, you'll have to pick up a VCMII.  On 2015+ Ford also started requiring PATS mods to connect with the Ford server for changes so there isn't a work around yet

I'm very happy with this one as well.
I went with a reader that's wireless rather than bluetooth. Previous ones I had had too many pairing issues.

FUCKING THIS.

Been using Torque pro (app) for years now.

I would however suggest that you get a better elm reader than the bulk ones that are $10 on amazon. if you are doing it for highspeed reading. there are better ELM style adapters that read at more than 5x the speed of the cheap ones.
