I was planning on getting an XDS, but they seem to have a bad rep due to various issues.

What's currently the best sub compact .45ACP?

I need more pocket firepower in Memphis.

xds 45 fits in my pocket and has been reliable with about 500 rounds through it,

How is the muzzle rise on the xds .45? Is it snappy?

Better  question, what is the muzzle velocity from such a short barrel?

It's actually a soft shooter compared to other subcompact .45s out there. I was pleasantly surprised. If it weren't for the grip safety, I would actually give some deep consideration into a 9. I like the red front sight too.

I've got a XDS 45. I had to send it in for the recall fix.

Trigger sucks on it. Heavy and gritty.

It does have some kick to it being such a small little gun. Also gives me a nasty blister on my right thumb when I shoot it for a while.  I do get light primer strikes too on a regular basis.  Last but not least, the slide fails to go into battery along with light primer strikes.

My least favorite gun right now.

Isn't the velocity gonna be crap with a barrel that short?  It's been a while, but when I was reading about .45 ACP, it was designed for a longer barrel and doesn't expand as well with short barrels.

I had two XDS .45's and loved them. Sent them back for recall and got them back and hated them. Horrible trigger with a spongey and heavy trigger. Look for something else. At least that's my opinion.

I used to have  a G30 and a G36. The G30 was like a damn brick and the G36 was the perfect size but had shitty capacity. Ended up with a G26 and a G19. Now that the G30S is out, I'm considering going back.

Para Warthogs look nice too.

I would actually like to get a RIA 1911 Compact, I know not a sub compact but still very nice and small, and in 45. The Beretta PX4 sub compacts are very nice to shoot.

Ultra compacts are for up close and personal 're-education'.

I've got a G36 and a G30 SF. I can make a G30S out of the two, so all three are covered!  I also have  Kimber Ultra CDP and a Kimber Master Carry Pro.  The  Master Carry is my favorite, but the G36 is better for summer wear.

I would vote Glock 30 with 9 round flush fit mags.. I've tried most of the other ones (Para Warthhog, Colt Defender, SA EMP) and so far Glock is the only one that I've found to be trustworthy. The Sig P245 is also ok, but it's a chunky little bastard for a six shot pistol.. It's damn close in size and weight to a P228.  I have heard good things about the Glock 30S, but have yet to get my paws on one... it's not so much the money (It's only $500) but the fact that I have at LEAST 10 holsters for the G30 and I doubt the S model will fit most of them due to the smaller slide... I'm not replacing a large part of my holster collection to get a gun a teeny bit thinner and a tiny bit lighter.

Colt defender. 2nd choice would probably be a para warthog like the guy above me showed. If i couldn't choose a 1911 type, I would still strongly look at the XDS.

I have both as well, and I would carry the G30 over the Kimber; higher round count, and rails for a light ( which mine wears).

Well, it's about $10/less a box of ammo, which means I get to practice more. Since I have a lot of mouths to feed on a very small salary, I have to use what works within the budget to the best of my abilities. A 9mm hole in the head or spine is going to be just as effective as a .45" hole in the head or spine.  Besides, 16 vs 11 rounds is nice to have when we're talking 4 rounds per target.  Faster follow up shots are a plus, too.

Don't get me wrong, I love that g30 .45. It just didn't work within the budget once more kids came along.

Friend of mine just picked up the 9mm version and I love that little thing. Accurate, small, thin, and it seems like the post-recall ones are fine. I think they did some hasty fixes on the ones that got sent back that boogered a few of them up. The ones coming out now that are already fixed (look for the roll pin in the grip safety) seem to be fine. If I find a bi-tone one around here for a decent price, I am probably going to snatch it up.
