Are actually dang fun!  I picked this up late last week; it's the first bicycle I've ridden or owned in 25 years.  Man, they have come a long way when it comes to brakes and suspension.  I'm still trying to get used to wearing what feels like an adult diaper (bicycle shorts), but it's great fun and great exercise.

And since it's arfcom, I threw in my Noveske lo-pro into the photo..

Let's see some photos of your bikes!  Any one have any recommendations on a road bike?

Have you taken it off any sweet jumps?

For a road bike you really can't go wrong with any of the bigger names.  Just make sure you get someone knowledgable to fit you to a frame.
I ride a cyclocross bike with slicks on the road.  That's a good option for you if you have cyclocross racing in your area.

What cc is that honda? It looks amazing. I don't ride anything special when it comes to just bikes.

Yes!  Poor bike, I weigh 195 pounds.  I've gotten it about 5 feet off the ground and lightly bottomed it with the compression set in the middle.  I'm going to take it in this week to have clip in pedals installed and increase the shock pressure by about 10psi.

It started as your typical 450, but last fall I broke the engine open on a rock without knowing it and burned the motor down after running it without oil.

I had every moving part replaced/upgraded.  It's now a 511cc with an Athena +4mm cylinder overbore and Hot Rods +3mm stroker crank shaft/connecting rod.  It has an 07 ported and polished head with oversized valves and a stage 2 cam and a bunch of other gizmo's.  I used to ride modified CR500's but this 511 is really something, or maybe I'm just getting older so it just feels faster.

In before this thread about bicycles go south....

I just bought my bike and started riding against for the first time in about 12years. I went the road bike route for training reasons, my biggest recommendation is head to a couple dedicated bike shops and test ride the better known brands: Trek, Cannondale, Felt, Scott and Specialized to start with; you can and will feel the difference when test riding different frames, gear sets and even carbon vs alloy. For me it came down to the trek 3.2 carbon bike and the Cannondale Caad10 alloy, both with shimano 105 gearsets; the differences were negligible and I went with the Caad10 for a few hundred $ cheaper.

I am 6'1", 205 and went with a 58cm frame, with a slightly shortened stem.

No its ok. He is riding a real bike and off road too. He only has to worry about trees and rocks , not cars.

I had a road bike for a short time, too many ahole drivers to worry about and even more ahole cyclists who give everyone a bad name.

Cool.  Great advice since i'm just a bit over 6'1".  I'm interested in a carbon frame because a lighter bike I think will make a big difference on long rides.

got into it several years go. i have a 'hybrid' which is sort of cross between mountain bike and a road bike. gary fisher katai. this is a great bike for riding around town, bumping up on curves and surfaces of different types. not a hard core mountain bike.

then i got a trek 2.3c roadbike. the roadbike i use for distances, up to 50 miles at a time.

very good exercise and fun. and its amazing the distances you can travel on one.

i wouldnt mind a true mountain bike but where i ride there are no places where i could take advantage of the increased suspension abilities and gears and tires.

i want to step up to a higher end road bike, but there are so many mixes and matches its difficult to decide what to pick.

I have been riding for over 30 years. My road bike has not been taken down for about 10 years.
Yet I have 3 mountain bike 2 of which are single speed bikes. Strictly off road - no urban hipster shit.

Keep it up and you may live longer.

I figured...  stupid question I guess as that was the same reason I quit riding street motorcycles..  Maybe I should stick to off road for now.

I am lucky in that there are many places to ride off road here. Started riding mountain bikes in the late 80's and the road bike was riden only during the week. Then it was once a week. Then I just hung the damn thing up.
Damn shame really. It is a custom road bike built for me by Stan Johnson who now lives in Montana but used to be a local boy.
Maybe I'll break it out this weekend and clean it up or something.

I like the one with the engine way better.

No bicycle can ever go fast enough to make me truly happy, well unless I rode it off of a cliff. I run out of legs far before I'm satisfied.
