Have you had any experience with the Kenwood KSC-SW1?  Ive been debating getting one of these vs a small stealth sub for the trunk.  I dont want a big thump but something is defiently missing in my current factory stereo.
If you have seen/heard one of these, what do you think?

I was warned off the Kenwood as a non-performer.

I did upgrade my Yukon.  I got tired of the factory system just sounding, well, factory.

I wanted the interior to look pretty much stock and consulted with my gunsmiths son's buddy Kevin.  He is a car stereo manager at Circuit City.

We added a Pioneer Sirius ready head.  Then a Kicker 600 watt amp and Kicker Speakers in the front and rear doors.  The fronts are 3 way and the rear doors are two ways.  Then a JL Audio 320 watt amp for the 8" JL Audio sub in the factory position in the rear.

All in all it is much better than I had hoped for sound wise and it takes up zero room in my truck and from the outside looks stock except for the radio, the amps are under the fold down rear seats so I am a pretty low profile target for stereo thieves.

I listen mainly to blues and rock and roll and the little 8" JL audio sounds great filling in the bass.  Nice and clean and no hip hop thump, thump thump.

The JL set up will cost ya around $400 for everything if you install it yourself.  It took me around two hours.  The JL amp is very compact at around 12" by 12".

What type of vehicle are you working with. I am huge on using actual subwoofers to create bass, not mid bass drivers and passive radiators to give the allusion of bass. I have worked on everything from Ford Regular cab pick up to Ferraris' when it comes to adding bass.

2005 mazda 3 hatch.  I am planning on changing the speakers out to CDT cl 62s as well but wanted to see how it sounded with just the bass first

I personally would add something like a Kicker S10L5 subwoofer ($249.00 retail) in a small custom enclosure (.4 cubic feet). Keep the factory headunit and add an amp with either the JLAudio cleansweep or a David Navone High to Low Adapter. You are looking at probably $1000 installed for quality work. 1000 is a lot more then I would wish to spend.  I can do the wiring myself and if I get stuck I can call up one of my Electrical Engineering buddies.  Theres a guy who builds boxes for an 8" sub for the emergency jack hole in my car.  I may look  into that option if this kenwood is that bad.  I wish there was a place I could hear these before I buy

An actual subwoofer (even an 8 incher) would be much more capable than that Kenwood option.
