What are your thoughts on this? Here's my take. We have different political parties because they are defined by their respective principles. Often these principles are in conflict, thus we are not served by a single party, because one party can't represent the interests of everyone. I don't elect a person because of his ability to compromise. I cast my vote expecting the candidate to stick to his guns on the principles he claims to represent and the things he promised during the campaign. I WANT my elected representative to be partisan. I don't want someone who has a foundation made of jell-o. I want someone who will fight for what he believes. To me, being called partisan would be a badge of honor, because it would mean that I have principles I'm not willing to compromise. When I hear the term "bipartisan" I think at least one of these guys, and maybe all of them, tossed some of their values out the window. BTW, today I'm wearing my "Does not play well with others" shirt. |

There is only "bipartisanship" when a Republican joins a Democratic initiative. The Democrat is then praised for being a 'consensus builder' If a Democrat joins a Republican initiative, the Republican is accused of using "right-wing strong arm tactics." At least that's what the press keeps telling me. You gotta learn the lingo if you want to live near DC. |
