I moved them after a few blocks were mined. Everything is where it should be. Made sure Sparrow was pointed to a mainchain server and confirmed the block height currently is what its supposed to be. Dysfunctional legislature recess update. Clarity Gets a September Lifeline as SEC Tees Up Proposal for Crypto Offering Rules |
|
Some AI thing popped up on my phone, figured I'd share. Bitcoin's historically low 30-day volatility has compressed the cryptocurrency into a tight trading range, historically setting the stage for a 30.2% absolute price swing over the following 60 days. According to an August 2026 report by Fundstrat Global Advisors, similar extreme lulls in price fluctuations have occurred eight times in Bitcoin's history. Crucially, this metric acts as a coiled spring rather than a directional compass: four of those historical cycles broke out into major bull rallies, while the other four resulted in steep selloffs. Which way we think this one goes? Up or down? |
|
Down. Simply based off pass cycles. Even with all the good successes to date since the last cycle bottom, and what's waiting on the sidelines, I see BTC being lower towards the end of the year (bottom of current cycle). I'd love nothing more than to be proven wrong. |

I'd love nothing more than to be proven wrong. My best guess would be down as well. Not a confident prediction but I just don't see any particular reason for Bitcoin to rally right now and it's still dumped nowhere near as much as previous bear markets by percentage. We are 50% down from the ATH in a bear year. That's pretty mild all things considered. Maybe that's just the way it goes from here on out or maybe we haven't hit the bottom yet. I could buy either argument. The 12 months leading up to halving events have traditionally been pretty positive though so lock in for April 2027 and onward. |

https://www.investors.com/news/clarity-act-sec-regulation-crypto-white-house-summit-trump-cftc-bitcoin/ We've got a potential date for a vote: "The Clarity Act will finally get its Senate vote in September, Sen. Cynthia Lummis confirmed on Tuesday. But regulators are getting a head start on cryptocurrency directives while Congress is out on recess. The Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday proposed new crypto offering rules and exemptions, after the Treasury Department earlier this week sought input on implementing the GENIUS Act. The White House on Wednesday afternoon hosts a meeting of top crypto and prediction market executives. Crypto stocks followed the price of bitcoin higher early Wednesday The Clarity Act will finally get its Senate vote in September, Sen. Crypto stocks followed the price of bitcoin higher early Wednesday. Why This Crypto Bill Is Key To Bitcoin's Future Lummis (R-WY) announced a Senate vote for the Clarity Act scheduled for Sept. 15 at 2 p.m., while speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium co-hosted by SALT and Kraken. "Sen. Thune was kind enough to actually schedule the bill for Sept. 15 at 2.p.m., no less," said Lummis, who serves as chair of the Senate Banking Committee's Subcommittee on Digital Assets. "We actually have not only a day, but a time. So we will move forward on that date and that time." The Senate failed to reach a compromise on the Clarity Act and delayed a vote on the digital asset market structure bill until after the August recess. SEC Proposes Crypto Rules Ahead of the Clarity Act vote, the SEC on Tuesday proposed new rules and exemptions for certain crypto and digital assets. The SEC proposed its new "Regulation Crypto Assets" rules, which the agency says "create a clear and fit-for-purpose framework for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets." The proposal aims to introduce a framework tailored to digital asset offerings and startup fundraising. "As we continue the Commission's efforts to provide clarity for crypto markets, and as Congress works to establish a lasting regulatory framework, Regulation Crypto Assets seeks to provide crypto asset entrepreneurs and market participants with clear pathways to raise capital under the federal securities laws," SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said in the release. Regulation Crypto Assets includes two new exemptions for digital asset projects. The proposal includes a one-time startup exemption that would allow crypto projects to raise up to $5 million during a four-year period. The SEC also permitted offerings of up to $75 million during each 12-month period as part of the fundraising exemption, which will require financial disclosures and reporting requirements. The proposal includes an investment contract safe harbor. That stipulation deems crypto assets are no longer subject to investment contracts under SEC regulation once the issuer ceases "all essential managerial efforts." The Regulation Crypto Assets also adds a "qualified purchaser" definition that preempts state-level securities registration and qualification requirements. Treasury Department Issues GENIUS Notice The SEC announcement comes after the U.S. Department of the Treasury on Monday issued a notice of proposed rulemaking, seeking public comments on implementing the GENIUS Act stablecoin bill. The agency also released proposed federal definitions regarding stablecoins, issuance and related parties. "Treasury welcomes input from stakeholders as we work to provide the regulatory certainty businesses need to innovate and grow in America, cement the role of the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency, and keep America the crypto capital of the world," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in the release. The Treasury Department said the GENIUS Act goes into effect on Jan. 18, 2027, after President Donald Trump signed the bill into law in July 2025. White House Hosts Crypto, Prediction Market Leaders Meanwhile, the White House is set on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. ET to host a summit of key crypto and prediction markets executives and industry regulators. Politico first reported on the meeting last week. Trump may attend, along with Bessent, SEC Chairman Atkins, CFTC Chairman Michael Selig and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to reports. Executives across the crypto and prediction markets industries including Coinbase (COIN), Gemini (GEMI), Robinhood (HOOD), Polymarket, Ripple and more are expected to attend. Leaders from traditional finance companies including Nasdaq (NDAQ), CME Group (CME), the New York Stock Exchange and the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation may also join the gathering" Continued in article |

My space stocks all tanked but had enough into ETH to cover most the losses. Great to see it moving today, guessing it's due to the Fed turning the money printer back on? |

some insights for yahoo finance FWIW =================== Why bitcoin prices are suddenly rallying big-time Brian Sozzi Fri, August 21, 2026 at 7:43 AM EDT The bitcoin bulls are back. Over the last 48 hours, the price of bitcoin is up about 18% to more than $77,600 as of the time of this writing. Bitcoin prices hadn't traded above the $70,000 level since late May prior to this latest push, per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data. "The strong trigger in bitcoin was driven by Treasury's move to buyback bonds at the longer end of the yield curve," Bernstein strategist Gautam Chhugani explained in a note today. "We are not macro experts, but we do know bitcoin historically has had a positive reaction to liquidity expansion. And this year's apathy towards bitcoin and crypto markets was a combination of tighter markets post Iran conflict, with rising risks of inflation and a very strong AI/semis trade pulling all the liquidity away." The US Treasury surprised financial markets this week by announcing it will double the maximum size of its long-term bond buyback operations from $2 billion to $4 billion per session. This intervention directly targets the 10-year, 20-year, and 30-year Treasury sectors after benchmark yields spiked to 20-year highs due to nagging inflation and war-driven energy price pressures. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday he has a "big toolkit" to continue to address the rise in bond yields. By stepping into the secondary market to purchase debt, the Treasury aims to inject liquidity, stabilize falling bond prices, and pull down soaring borrowing costs for consumers and businesses. Bessent's promise to unleash his big toolkit appears to have only emboldened the bitcoin bulls overnight into expecting more liquidity, which they have tended to reward with higher digital asset prices. Further helping sentiment this week around bitcoin is a White House meeting with President Trump and top digital asset players at Coinbase (COIN) and Robinhood (HOOD). Trump called on Congress to pass a "fair version" of the Clarity Act and declared that America will remain the "undisputed leader" in bitcoin and crypto. Chhugani said, "The industry now expects either Clarity Act to pass in the September session or a new set of rules and exemptions by the SEC/CFTC. In fact, without Clarity Act, the industry will see accelerated rule making to support a series of new products - 24*7 perp futures on commodities/equities; compute derivatives including compute perp futures; on-chain tokenized equities trading 24*7 in the U.S.; and continued federal support for prediction markets." and Barron's --------------------------- Bitcoin Heads for Best Week Since 2024 as Trump-Fueled Crypto Rally Rages On By George Glover Aug 21, 2026, 6:14 am EDT Bitcoin prices surged this week after President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass key crypto legislation. Bitcoin was on track for its best week in over two years, rising 22% since Monday to reach $77,692. The rally followed President Donald Trump’s call for Congress to pass the Clarity Act, which would regulate tokens as commodities. The cryptocurrency market was also boosted by falling bond yields and the liquidation of over $1.2 billion in Bitcoin short positions. BTC was on track for its best week in more than two years as investors continued to piled into digital assets after President Donald Trump called for Congress to pass key legislation. The world’s largest cryptocurrency has risen 8.3% to $77,692 in the past 24 hours. It’s up 22% since Monday, its best five-day stretch since March 2024, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Other tokens were also rising. Ethereum jumped 8.4% and XRP surged 25% over the past 24 hours, according to data from the Kraken crypto exchange. Digital assets have broken out of a long slump in recent days. Trump met with crypto executives at the White House on Wednesday and called for Congress to vote through the Clarity Act, which would regulate Bitcoin and other tokens as commodities instead of securities. The bill faces a procedural vote on Sept. 15. It wasn’t just Trump that boosted cryptos this week. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday that his department would boost longer-duration debt buybacks, which sparked a retreat in bond yields. Lower borrowing costs tend to lift cryptos because they make bonds and other interest-bearing assets less appealing and add liquidity to the market. Short covering also helped to drive digital assets higher. More than $1.2 billion Bitcoin short positions were liquidated, per data from Fundstrat. The rally has had a knock-on effect on crypto stocks, and those were rising again on Friday. Coinbase gained 7%, Robinhood added 5.6%, and Strategy jumped 11% ahead of the opening bell.
