I have seen this done on the metal types but on my Toyota they are plastic.
Should I just sand down below the "chrome then primer them and paint with a somewhat decent black paint? Or should I just paint them and see? I have zero experience painting plastics aside from using a rattle can on an Ar and the results were exactly what you would expect. thanks in advance. |

sand entire surface with 400, you don't need to sand all the chrome off. that would take a long time then use kylon fusion and do a few light coats. reattach with foam doublestick tape (3m or otherwise) edit: the important part is to make sure you scuff (have little scratches) on the entire surface, otherwise the paint will flake off the non-scuffed chrome in no-time. Krylon Fusion is great stuff for plastic. I painted the rocker panels on my daily driver with the stuff two years ago, hasn't chipped, faded, or otherwise begun to fail anywhere. |

So what if it is a fad, It keeps the wife happy and it is all she wants for xmas. Few hours of work getting the damn things off. Sounds like a win win to me. This exactly. I orig debadged the truck, the dug up emblems, blacked out the ones I wanted to put back on. My truck is black, I also picked up blacked LED tails and 3rd as well. A good scuff and clean will be good to go. I sanded, cleaned, primer/adhesion promoter, paint. They look great. Some have tossed the in the oven and baked, 6 to 1, half dozen to another. |
