Anyone have a blog? If so, looking for FIRST HAND recommendations on software & hosting. Would be especially interested in the cost & performance of Linux shareware style software vs the established typepad/blogspot/eblogger solutons. Thanks! |
| I use WordPress for my somewhat inactive Blog. I spent a lot of time trying out several other packages and found that I like it the best. |
I saw that. Is it really open source? What specifically did you like/not like about it vs the "commercial" typepad/blogspot/etc packages? |

Actually it's been awhile since I went through the whole selection process so I can't remember, but I imagine that it was the fact that I could customize how it looks, and all the third party add-ons. I guess it's open source, there are a lot of people making scripts/hacks for it. If you want to look at how I chopped it up, Here's my website, yes I really haven't done much with it since I put it together, but you can see how I made it look different than others. Do you have, or do you know how to install Apache, MySql, PHP on you box at home? If you can it makes it alot easier to install and try different software to see what works for you. You can also then hack it up for your needs on your box and home to try stuff out, then if you like it you can make the changes on your website. I used Fireserv to intall Apache, etc... on my home box. |
