[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Blue Angles are here (Page 1 of 2)

| I work by the Willow Grove, PA Navy base. The Blue Angles are doing their practice for this weekend's air show. We're right under their flight path. They bank their turns right over our parking lot. Damn, it's awsome! They're shaking the whole building. It better clear up this weekend! |

Hell yes! That is awesome. I managed to get a spot to watch the Blues at Dobbins AFB DIRECTLY down the centerline of the runway and maybe 60 yards from the end of the runway. There is NOTHING that can compare to a diamond of 4 F18s going directly overhead, 80 ft up, at full throttle. God that was a beautiful day. |
Never heard that. When I've checked their schedule, I can't recall seeing any overlaps. Anyone in the know? |
hey tacberry - where you at? i am in the 100 building on tournament. |
Think he was being funny. I assure you there's only one Blue ANGELS (not Angles) Flight team. Y'all say hello to the boys for me. SG Obligatory pics: ![]() ![]() |
Those backseat shots were taken by my friend Casey...he's probably flown more time in the backseat of 7 than anyone, and he's a helluva photographer. SG |
I guess if I learned to read, I'd look a lot less stupid, huh? |

The Blues are a bunch of primma donnas. Always making impossible demands on the air stations they do shows at. And they won't come to my air station because they won't do two shows in the same area. They do Fleet Week at Seattle, but won't come and do the NAS Whidbey Island show two weeks later. So, we have to go and get the Thunderbirds, the Air Force flight demonstration team, to do an air show at a Naval Air Station. |
I'd rather watch F16s anyway. |
I would be interested in knowing what type of demands. They are all some of the most humble down to earth people. A primma donna in the mix wouldn't last all but 10 seconds. |
Go to the airport and watch the take-off program. It's pretty awesome! Every seen a Herky-Bird make a RATO? Man what a ride. C-130 going straight up under rocket power....high pucker factor! They will be here end of June...i can't wait! ALWAYS a good show! |

We were staying at a hotel center beach in Pensacola last July when they came in for the air show. My 9am wakeup call was four F-18's at 500ft in full burn with the smoke on. I thought they were going to fly inside our 2nd story room. Most awesome thing I've ever seen. |
They are light, the herk can do it with out the JATO's...the rockets when used real world are fired a little after break release, not before rotation. It does look and sound awesome! |
You must not know many naval aviators then. They are ALL primadonnas. EVERY one of them. Shit, AF pilots are even worse. And before you flame me, my father is a fighter pilot, so are all 20+ friends of his that I have been around my whole life EGO+Adrenaline = Fighter Pilot Some are just worse than others. I can tell you this tho, the marine who pilots Fat Albert is a nice laid back guy. I met one about 5 years ago. Doesnt have the chip on his shoulder fighter jock mentality. Cool guy. |

It's been a while, but I have supported a few young ladies careers there before, yes. Visions was by far better then "the Purple Orchid" down five points in Philly. Better prices on beer, but the girls were much better at visions. |

There is only one Blues team, period. Just as there is ony one Thunderbirds team. Both teams do make some demands on local fields, but it's ALL SAFETY FIRST motivated. In the late 90's my nephew tried out, and was 3rd non-selectee for the Blues. Yeah, he is totally confident, a tad arrogant, and just a bit of a prima donna on a bad day. He's a fighter jock, they ALL are to one extent or another. It goes with the job, period. I grew up AF, and did a hitch, which took me to a TAC base in the UK in the late 70's. Trust me, these guys NEED to be arrogant, confident and demanding. DaddyDett |

My office is literally at the end of the WGNAS runway (400 Horsham for the locals)... I was DEAFENING today... I actually took my pro-ears in with me to wear out on smoke breaks. I was honestly expecting one of them to do a supersonic flyby (which I know is against regs, but it usually happens 2 or 3 times each air show anyway.) Wanted to see how many flourescent tubes it would take out. Maybe tomorrow. To top it all off, my house is about 2 miles away, at the end of the "pattern" ... so I get the wake-up call (I work 2-10) of afterburners starting around 8:30. Glad I'm leaving for S NJ tomorrow at 7PM.. |
