I was wondering if the metal mesh shirts and gloves, sort of what they use on those shark shows on TV would work to prevent Zombie bites. Is the actual bite, or the saliva, that transmits the virus?
I believe that if they could not bite you, it would be beneficial to your long term health. |

Sharks have sharp penetrating teeth in which a chain maille type armor is best suited. If I had to hypothesize human teeth would leave more of a crushing blunt trauma type of wound. If you were using a porous armor such as maille contamination via saliva could be introduced into the wound even if penetration didnt occur. I think leather would be better suited for this purpose. |
| Chain mail would work fine. Whether it is transmitted through wound or fluids. The teeth will not pass through the chain mail. Trust me the friends I keep and the actual ownership of chain mail gloves combined with alcohol has proven this theory. While it does hurt like HELL, it will not pierce it. Provided you had no existing open wounds under the particular spot they were salivating on you would be good to go. |

So as one mentioned all ready, as long as your skin is not broken you will be fine. Wear sevral layers of clothing underneath the chainmail for dry lubrication, and extra protection over wounds. A bite, even through chainmail can rupture skin, just because of the way the skin is stretched. But wearing a full suit of chainmail will be encumbering, so make sure you don't exhaust yourself. Stay close to your shelter. As for a full suit of plate mail.... BAD idea. It's entirely too heavy, and with the seperate pieces of metal, Zombies can get their hands underneath them and rip the metal plates off of you, potentially even ripping your limbs off your body. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't hardly be able to move in one of these anyway. My mideival helmet is bad enough! In the end, tight clothing is the best armor you can get. A few layers can prevent penetration of teeth, and give you enough time to lop off the head of a Z. |
| There was a cheesy Zombie-ish movie on recently called "Dead Heist". Bunch of dudes were robbing a bank in a town that was in the path of the Zombies. Anyway, one of the characters handed out shin guards to put on the forearms of others. If I am not mistaken, there is a ballistic forearm guard for SWAT. Might be a good addition to the layers of snug clothing. |
