You guys seen the new Boost Mobile 50 Buck deal?
Back when I was working, my city gave us "important" employees Sprint Nextel Push-to-Talkie-Phones. Because some idiots were using 10,000 minutes a month for personal calls, they started auditing our usage. Every once in a while, I would make a call that I particularly didn't want logged by some bean-counter, so I bought a really nice Boost phone, threw 50 bucks at it, and I still had all the walkie-talkie features of the Nextel, but I could make an occasional regular call without being "tracked". For those that don't know, Boost Mobile is the pre-paid side of Sprint/Nextel and uses the same network, has the same coverage, offers all the same crap as Sprint, but NO contract, NO public listing and you can tell 'em your name is Elmer Fudd if you want. If you're really paranoid, you can buy a refill card just about anywhere with cash and add the minutes on the Interwebz. The only downside is Boost is geared toward teenagers and other people with crappy credit, because there is no credit check or contract....just pay the 50 bucks a month. It doesn't affect the phone or the service, just the promotions and customer service (US-based, BTW) who answer the phone "Hey, dude!" I used it until the pre-paid minutes ran out, then just kinda stuck it in a drawer. Screw 'em, if they don't like who I call, then take the damn thing away. Now, Boost is offering unlimited EVERYTHING for 50 bucks a month. Unlimited calls, web, texting, GPS, everything there is (no e-mail yet, though). I called 'em up and asked if they could re-activate my phone....yup. Any restrictions on calls (like that bullshit "friends and family" or "my circle" sit)....nope. No roaming or long distance charges either. Just 50 bucks a month. TOTAL anonymity, unlimited use, walkie-talkie, GPS, you name it. She also told me that if this takes off, they're going to add Blackberry service, too. My current carrier's contract is up, and they can shove their "my faves" and "nights and weekends" crap up their ass. I don't know how AT&T, Verizon and those other clowns are going to compete with this. These butt-plugs have held us hostage for years with their contract BS.....well, FUCK YOU! They've gotta be shitting in their Cheerios over this! |
