Just ignore them, doing anything else would entail that fossil fuels would be used and they don't want that. Hang from a rope and get hit by a ship? Not the ship's fault.

They rigged all that and nobody noticed them doing it? How long would that take? https://s.hdnux.com/photos/01/05/47/61/18250826/3/480x480.jpg View Quote All of the prep work was done off site and a scouting team probably stopped on the bridge to assess attachment points weeks in advance. Tips were probably dropped to the media that something would happen today. The particulars were probably tweeted or messaged to sympathetic journalist as it happened. One or two people in nondescript private cars probably drove the bridge a few minutes before to look for cops. Greenpeace is very good at this sort of protest. @Blue_Monkey |

So they've turned themselves into one of those 70s style bead doorway hangings?

What ever happened to the green peace protesters that climb the Russian oil rigs and got arrested?
are they still in Russian jail? |

On the one hand, I get why police are there. Those protestors are blocking marine traffic, hanging from a bridge, miss using emergency lanes, etc and need to be arrested. And on the other hand it would be quite easy to simply ignore them or at least simply have officers observe them until after road traffic has died down and then arrest them. The agents of the state don’t like being left out of a party and their political masters both insist on intervention and are quite taken by tales of interventions effectiveness. The necessity to intervene is directly triggered by the actions of the protestors. They did this knowing that it would be disruptive and that they would be arrested. They have lawyers on standby and that arrest is a badge of honor in the environmental community. And yet the necessity to intervene is also reciprocally created by law enforcement and political leadership. The politicians demand that something be done, and police do something, the response becomes standard procedure, the politicians avoid blame by hiding behind standard procedure and the cops act under the politicians mandate. The fourth layer is the risk of a disordered public response. Look at this thread for examples. We can’t have ordinary citizens hauling up, beating, peeing on or arresting protestors. The immediate risk is mob violence, rope cutting, ship ramming etc. The systemic risk is any tolerance of aggressive self help/mob violence/vigilante justice. It’s a giant expensive self justifying circle. The protest is both a publicity stunt and a marginally effective social hack of a system that feels compelled to intervene. I wonder if they know that their clothes, ropes and most of their gear is made using Oil?

I need to put a tank of gas in my SUV, drive it around and burn it out, add some more, repeat.

The irony of them causing traffic backups which causes more idling which causes more gas usage is surely going to be lost on them.

I can't believe the city doesn't just tie the ropes to some bumpers and haul them up and arrest them. Oh wait, sure I can, because Houston is a liberal sh*t-hole, and the mayor and police chief are probably applauding this. How many millions of dollars will shutting down the Ship Channel cost the various companies that use it daily? I bet they won't even get a ticket out of this. Much like how Antifa gets away with everything. Someone should run out there with a Trump 2020 flag and watch how fast they will get arrested.

Those idiots better protest the medicine, food and lithium battery companies.
The refineries dont even care about fuel. The most valuable parts of processed oil are used in medicine, all advanced batteries and nearly every single food&beverage commodity packaging there is. Liberalism is a metal disorder. |

How did Greenpeace window lickers arrive at their destination at the bridge? Bicycle? Horseback? No? I'd wager that they are part of the problem, wasting fossil fuel for the sake of worthless media whoring. Rules for thee and not for me. View Quote |

After hanging there 24 hours it may not be easy to climb up. If I were running that show I would get a truck with a cat head on it and pull those fuckers up and arrest them and take them to jail. Make bail 100k each.
With my digger truck I would have them up in no time. If you dropped the first one the rest would damn sure climb up. |

Cut the ropes. Sink their ships. Burn their headquarters down to the foundations. Arrest their leadership and investigate every aspect of their finances and operations.

So they all walked to the bridge after leaving their off-the-grid residences? View Quote Fuck no, they all drove SUVs and luxury cars to StarSchmucks, bought way over priced Lattes, Selfied each other for a good hour or so while tweeting their grand plans on their Iphone 10Xs, then drove to the bridge where they risked their lives as well as any 1st responders who might have had to risk their lives if any of them got into trouble. I don't get protesters some times, I mean we are all going to stop using or cut back using fossil fuel, because you dangled you ass from a Bridge. |
