Arfcom is probably the worst place to ask, but it is always entertaining. Dating for just under 2 months, not working for me anymore- friends say the only acceptable ways to break up with someone is via a phone call or in person. Is that true or for younger people (early 20's) is instant messaging acceptable now?
I'm trying to not be an asshole about it. Any funny stories welcome. |

My last girlfriend broke up with me via IM. I've ejected over the phone. Sorry, bud. Had a gal do the same a couple years ago on X-mas Eve, a half hour before I was to take her out for the evening. I have never laughed so hard in my life, she said she was basically too classy for me.

I'm trying to not be an asshole about it. Any funny stories welcome. I broke up with my girl last night of 2.5 years of dating. In person. If you break up in text you're a disrespectful pussy. |

I don't quite have your legendary memory, but I've seen you lament her several times in the last few weeks/month.You are fucking Deej86 for crying out loud. Does she know who you are??! Obviously not. She doesn't deserve you, man. Don't give ANY woman the controls to your emotions - past-present or future. When you find the right one, you can love her with your whole heart and let transpire what may...longterm dating or eventually marriage - but YOU are always in control of the relationship. Can't let women think they can walk over you, or they will. Be a caring, nurturing, sensitive guy if that's who you are, but there will be times that you will have to put your foot down and be a complete dick (but really you are just standing up for yourself and your beliefs), and what you say is the fucking law, or hit the street woman - that needs to be your attitude. Didn't mean to hijack. |

I never break up with any chick. I just remove myself and get really distant. Eventually, she will get sick of it and move on. If not you will have a chick that will do whatever you want, whenever you want.
When a chick breaks up with me, then I can always go back. Leave the door open, so you can tag it when you want, or go back if situations change. |

Just stop returning calls and IMs. aka: "I'm not breaking up with you, I just fixed the glitch" This has happened to me in the past and I hated it, so I refuse to do it to someone else. A GF did this to me once... she was 32 at the time. VERY immature. |

If you think there is ANY chance she could get violent or accuse you falsely of being violent do it over the phone. I told my wife I was filing for divorce and leaving her over the phone for this reason. THis. If you decide on FTF do it in public. Private breakup lead to false allegations of domestic violence or sexual assault in too many cases. |

Less than 2 months? Phone call works.
As for anecdotes, I was once with this chick but it was just boring and not much fun. Our personalities were just too different. I was doing some paperwork at home and kept thinking I should just call her and end it. The phone rang and it was her to break up with me. I was so relieved. She got to end it on her terms and neither one of use was even bothered by it. Best break up I ever had. |
