I was given a nice leather combination lock briefcase but not the combination.  Presently it is open and the dials are set on "000."  How do you set the combination and/or change it?  I don't want to screw it up.
Thanks.

There should be a tab on the inside of the case on the back of each lock that can move back and forth.

Set your combo and move the tabs. Then I would double check it works before locking the case.

Look on the inside of the case, just opposite of the lock. There usually is an L shaped slot and a lever sticking out of it. The lever can be moved to the other position along the L shaped slot. Many times you move the lever sideways and it snaps down the slot.

In the moved position, you should now be able to change the combination to what you want it to be. Then you return the little lever to the original position and the new combination is set.

Test it with the case open by putting a small screwdriver into the part of the lock where the shackle part should go (mimick the actual lock without locking yourself out). You should be able to see if it will release when you enter the code you set.

Thanks guys.  One more question: there is a suede-like liner covering up the back of the locks.  Is there a brest way of removing it without messing it up (the first thing that comes to mind is a box cutter)?

Find an edge and see if it will peel back, prob just glued in. Then you can just press it back into place or add a little glue.

Sometimes there is a small hole through the liner to get to the set tabs...

Sometimes you just move the "button" to the side as though you were unlocking it. Hold it there while you change the combo, then release it. The combo should be changed.
