So Ive been thinking about this, like a location to hole out in for longevity sake. Im not sure what would be the best place to hole up. Either say like a mountain fortress, or say the top few floors of an apt building with the lower floors made so there is no way up to you. or say like a Automotive garage with all the metal and concrete around you, or even say a military base. I am not sure which is best for safety and possibly longevity. I kinda think the tip top of a tall apt building might be best, if there is access to the roof. Cause there is enough place to leave out buckets for water and possibly grow food on the roof for sustainability, and if you either smash up or make it so the stairs are useless (including fire escapes) that could be the best... Assuming no one sets the building on fire. |

A remote location, the farther away from population centers the better.Less people mean less potential Z's to deal with at the onset of any outbreak.
There's a lot to consider besides holding off zombies:sanitation, supply storage, long term access to water, being able to hold off marauding gangs, etc.A rural area most likely would offer the most options/solutions to these problems.I would hole up in the city for a limited duration only.At the first opportunity I'm bugging out. |
| Fuck bug'n out. I am staying put. With all the idiots that will be out trying to get away, your best bet is to stay home and wait for the morons to get eaten first. Then I am heading for the wide open spaces of Western Kansas. Nothing out there but blue skies and cow shit. You can see them coming for days. |

oooo, camping site/cabin in the middle of the woods? Z's could be on you pretty quick,, i would want more line of sight outside the perimeter.
looks like the makings of a cheap z movi. its been weeks since the outbreak... wake up on a beautifull moring... stroling to the outhouse... and a Z comes tearing out of the dark woods 15 feet away |

Two things:
1. A prison is the ideal place if you can't get the hell out of town, or a school maybe. I like a prison or jail because everyone that is in, will be as far away as they can, and no one outside will want in. =) 2. If you can get the hell out of town, shoot for the most rugged, remote, and least desirable spot of land you can think of. Just be sure to brush up on your survival skills. Once things cool down, you can find a building closer in, but be sure to give the morons enough time to kill each other off. |

Is there a secret knock or anything???? I might be heading up sooner, just to be prepared.....???? well, as long as your not draging one leg and leaking puss out your ears dont you guys have wide open spaces in TX? We sure do, and I for one am going to use it to my advantage! After awhile though, I will want to make it up north, away from the roving horde that was once ol' Mexico. |
| I live on a penninsula with only 2 major roads into or out of the county. I'd have to go with a boat. If things went real bad, real fast and got real ugly, I'd wait it out for a short time and try to "Borrow" one of the Coast Guard Cutters from down the road. With cmaller watercraft I'd be able to easily access the mainland for supplies. |

well, as long as your not draging one leg and leaking puss out your ears dont you guys have wide open spaces in TX? It's getting pretty crowded. Most of the land in west Texas that everybody thinks would be wonderful as a BOL doesn't have any water... and the soil isn't good for crops anyhow. |

pretty much you need someplace that will give you at least some sustainability, the less you have to go out raiding for supplies the less risk you have and the more control you have over your situation.
you want a place thats not TOO large, biggest mistake they always make in the movies is trying to hold too large of an area. if your going to use an apartment building, collapse your perimeter to the point where you have the manpower and firepower to defend it. another plus is good visibility, the further out you can see em coming the more time you have to respond and it gives you better situational awareness. you want to know they are there before they are beating down your door. |

Yup! big silo out in the middle of nowhere Texas. Always wanted to get up in the structures on top of those things and see what the hell is up there. Plus the view must be amazing. Some day I just might get the chance to have a Silo of my very own....for free. |

I have plenty of firepower to hold the Z's at bay until the walls are up. and for crying out loud, GET OUT OF THE CITIES! without supplies being shipped in, a city has no real resources. if you find yourself in MN when they come, feel free to head north. i have enough land to provide food and shelter to many. but your gonna work I see what you did there... I checked out the compound in that pic. Of course the talking head doing the tour had no idea as to why there were ports in the corner block overlooking the gate... |
