Well, I've been doing some research and I think I have an idea of what is going on, but still kinda lost with everything.

I bought a starter kit, upgraded the tank, put an airflow valve on it, etc. Been doing that for a while, but now I want to go with a better set up.

I assume I need a mod, battery(ies), charger, wire, cotton, and an atomizer.

I am mechanically inclined and somewhat electrically inclined (engineering background), but I don't really know much about this. Battery sizes, what ohm's I am trying to hit with the coils, etc.
I don't know if you build the coils to go off of what kind of temp or cloud you are wanting.
What size battery to get for what mod (It seems some don't say anything)
Difference in atomizers.

Yeah, I don't know much about it.

They will build me one at a local shop, but I would rather learn on my own, probably can get a better deal online, or get what I want.

So, if you have links or don't mind me picking your brains, let me know.

how much are you wanting to spend?
Is there a size issue with wanting compact?

Here is my opinion;

Get yourself a mechanical mod.  Nemesis is what I use every day.  $30ish on eBay.
Get yourself a Kayfun.  I like the Kayfun Lite Plus.  But pretty much everyone here raves about the Kayfun 3.1.  (I still need to try one myself.)  Also available on eBay for $35ish.
Get yourself some Sony VTC5 batteries.
Get yourself a charger.  Nitecore i4 (or i2) and the Efest LUC chargers are popular around here.
Get yourself some wire.  28ga kanthal is perfect for Kayfuns.  100' of it is cheap on eBay.
Get yourself some cotton from your local drug store.  I got a bag of, I think, 80ct "organic" cotton balls from Walgreens for about $4-$5.  It will last forever.

I assume you already have juice, so you'd be set.

I can get links up here in a minute.

I totally skipped over the "drip" part of your title.

Well, scratch the Kayfun idea, if you want a dripper.  Everything else stands, except you could play for different size wire with a dripper.

Oh quick responses!

I was going to shoot around 100 bucks or so, If that seems reasonable. It is my first set up, I don't want to go all out just yet.

Thanks NY for the info!

Just a simple set up that I can play with and get used to building coils, wire sizes, etc. Something with a better pull than my disposable set up.

Just to be clear, dripping requires you to carry around a bottle of juice with you at all times, and needs to have juice dripped on the coils/cotton every 5-10ish drags.

Is that what you're looking for?

Yeah, I know of this already. I am able to have a bottle with me all of the time, and if I don't, I can still use pro tank.

Any specific wire gauge I should start out with?

ETA: NY, I see you said 28 ga. above.

That can also depend on the dripper you decide to go with.

28 is a good all around gauge to start with though.

Yeah.  28ga is perfect for Kayfuns.

But with a dripper, your options are more open, OP.

No sir..

Big juice capacity (4.5ml), pretty much bullet-proof (even when not in all-steel mode; I've dropped mine with the full plastic tank quite a few times and no damage), hits hard and easy to build.

Now I just need to boil my balls and read up on my ohms.

Thanks for the help everyone. I will take pics when I get it together.

Here a couple good references/tools regarding batteries and ohms. I'm sure you know your Ohm's law but the parallel resistance calculator is convenient when you start into dual or quad builds.

Battery calculator/chart

For that dripper, ive had really good luck with dual coils using 24g kanthal. Shoot for about 0.4-0.6 ohms. With 28g maybe shoot for 0.6-0.8 Run the airflow wide open.  Since nobody asked, what nic level juice are you running? Drippers can be pretty hardcore with stronger nic juice.

I normally stay at .6 with my pro tank and cheap battery, not much of a hit with that, I will drop down to nothing or .3 if I have to.  (for nic level)

I quit smoking and chewing along time ago, so it is more for just something to do.

Thanks for the ohm suggestion, if my calculations are correct, each coil would then be set up for ~1.2-1.6 ohms? And should be damn near identical?  All I have is a fancy multi meter and will be testing them this way to start.  Anything I should worry doing it that way?

You got it, that should work. Just make sure your coils are as close to the same as you can get.

I use one of these.

I've got my setup in the mail, just waiting on wire and the battery charger.

Pretty sure I can polish the shit out of this whole thing and make her shine.

Is there any specific reason for everything being serial numbered, other than mixing it up with a friends?

Nice looking combo.  I used the same combo at one time, and still do on occasion.

The originals have serials, so the clones copy them, but I doubt they are exclusive when it comes to the clones.  Probably multiples of each #.

The button on the bottom is a little rocky (as in tilts a bit when pushed). It binds up slightly when I press it on occasion, I am sure it is part of being a clone.
It sure is sexier than my protank though.

I will have to get a kayfun here soon, you know, cause everyone else is doing it.
