So im going to plop down some cash this summer on a new PC or laptop (not sure yet which really looking at macbook pro 17). But the only stipulation is it must run OSX.

So should I buy an Apple product and be done with it? or do a shit load of reasearch cherry pick parts that work and build a hackintosh? (Ive done a few all ready and my entertaiment system is a hack). But im really wanting to go down the Laptop route, and many, are issue prone to the install (missing kexts).

so what should I do?

You appear to already like the apple koolaid, so just drink up and enjoy.    . . . . . . Just buy a mac.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a PC or Mac with one of Intel's new 32nm CPUs and maybe a solid state HD.

If your gonna build:
Newegg
and
TigerDirect

I used those to build the monster PC I have now for less than 2k.
8gb GSkill RAM, 1000watt Corsair, AMD Phenom II, EVGA gtx 295, Foxconn motherboard, 500gb WD hard drive, Xclio windtunnel case, Royal Knight cooler, etc.

If you go with Mac, well... sorry about the dent in your pocket book.  They're pretty good stuff, but effin expensive.

What's your budget?

If you can afford the Mac you really want, go for it.  If you can't, going hackintosh is one way to get OS X on the hardware you want.

Agree.  No reason to do the hackintosh thing, except for the sake of doing it.

If you want a laptop, the buy decision is obvious.  For a desktop, the mac mini is cheap and will do everything 90% of people will ever need.

You'll get more bang for the buck if you build your own desktop, plus you can put all the cool stuff you want in it. Desktop over laptop... you can put more horse power in a desktop than you can in a laptop..... and when you build... build with upgrade-ability in mind. It will save you money down the road.

Some of Apple's updates have been breaking Hackintoshes lately.  If your software is a must-have item, get the real thing.  Less hassles long term.

For special purpose PCs it's better to build them. You'll just need to have some spare parts from a previous machine to save you some cash.

For a run of the mill web/email/porn pc, a $300 cpu from any big box store will work fine.

Yep.  A Hackintosh is technically a violation of Apple's EULA on OSX.   This is one of the reasons why I hate Apple; I want to be able to legitimately build my own PC/Mac/whatever without violating the user license.

I'd say buy a real Mac and be done with it.  My dad loves his, but then again he's not very savvy when it comes to PCs.

Check out Maximum PC's website.  They have several articles on building.  Do a search on their website for the "dream machine" builds, and they will have step-by-step instructions on how to select parts and build ... for all budgets.

OSX EULA =/= Snow Leopard EULA.  Not sure if you are being serious.

What do you need to run?  Hell, I've seen some good deals on recently replaced machines on Craigslist.  You might be able to build a nice PC and buy a lightly used Mac laptop depending on your needs.  I'm a big fan of farming out my CPU intensive tasks to my desktop and running a less powerful laptop.

They do a round of system builds every couple months with the latest parts available.  If you're close enough in VA I can always assist.  IM me if I can help.

Mac mini is pretty cheap (for Apple), if you have room for a desktop.  What software, Final Cut?

Edit:  Some pretty good deals on used Minis if you are patient.  Check Craigslist, ebay, etc.
