So it’s been a few years (decade) since I built a computer and decided it’s time to try it again. What are some good resources for getting caught back up to today’s goodies?

My box is this:

AMD 5000
6 gig DDR2 ram
MSI K9N SLI v2 mobo
EVGA NVidia GForce 8800 GTS (320 mb ram) video card
320 gig HD.
Windows 7 Ultimate Signature edition

Basically, it is a 2 year old rig.  I play TF2, CS: source, and L4D.  I max out the graphics on all of them.  Sure, those games dont place a demand on the video card like "Crysis", would, but it still eats them for bfast.

As much as I would like a new machine, I can't justifty it.

I would go for the following:

Intel i5 processor (The i7 just doesn't have enough power to justify the 5x higher price.)
One good Ati graphics card. (NVidia seems to be slouching lately.  I prefer NVidia becaue of their Linux support, but, once again, bang for the buck means Ati wins).
6 gig of DDR3 ram.  (A few 6 gig packs of ram are available from tigerdirect/compusa...)
A good power supply. Min 430 watts.  (There is a 430 watt one, but I'd get THIS one...)
SATA HD and SATA DVD burner.
