I have been building my own desktops since 1996. It is as cost effective (and easy) to build your own laptop?

Not unless you don't mind a 25 pound laptop.

I had somone tell me its not that much diffrent and cheaper, but I never got into details.
Seems source of parts would be more expensive and less choices.

You can get Laptop guts (case, LCD, etc) on Ebay and then populate with your preferred parts (HD, Memory, CD/DVD) You can't build a Laptop from scratch because each case / motherboard / keyboard is different.

Yeah, you can buy whitebooks, which is your barebone case, motherboard, and LCD, and add hardware accordingly.
