I have decided to dump T-Mobile (yeah I know...) and go with VeriZon for a provider. While I have never broken a phone, or had one crap out, I thought I would look for one of the "Mil-spec" phones that seem to be all the rage.

This is what verizon offers:
GzOne type S...Verizon link.

Video demo... I'm pretty sure I can avoid the tractor.

Apparently this newer version lack some features of the previous (ie. Megapixel camera), but all i want is to make and recieve call. No interweb, no text, no MP3, nothing. This one fits the bill.

All the reviews I have read have been favorable, and the video is pretty cool (there are a few other floating around too).

Anyone have one? Know someone who has one? Intel is appreciated.

Over.

I still have the first G Zone they offered and it's tough as nails. They say the newer model can take abuse, just not as much as the original gray one.

Is that Push to Talk a radio feature?  If so, your loved ones should get the same feature.  In a recent earthquake here in California, the cellular phones stopped working because they were overloaded.  The same thing happened in NYC during 9/11.  PTT still works.

I have a GzOne and it has held up quite nicely.  I've only had it for 6 months or so but I like it.  It is a bit bulky but I don't usually notice.

Bump for the day crew...

I found this snippet from a reveiw here...infosyncworld.com

...If you're going to be making calls while firing an M4 assault rifle, for instance, this is probably a good choice (though you'll probably want to keep both hands on the carbine)...

It kinda sealed the deal...

I break cell phones.  It's what I'm good at.

Water. Impact. Weird electrical problems.... check.

My fiancee got me the gzone (she calls it the jizz one).

It's pretty beefy, gets good reception, and seems to be me-proof (so far).
It is firking gigantic though.
