Bullitt now showing on TCM. 11 minute chase scene is still one of the standards that chase scenes are judged by. Maybe not the best, but a classic. |
|
| The movie that got me to love mustangs. Everything about that movie is excellent, Steve McQueen, Diamondback snub, Winchester pump takedown shotgun, 390 Mustang GTA, Dodge Charger, chase scene, soundtrack, Robert Duvall, Bill Hickman, Jacqueline Bisset, Norman Fell, Robert Vaughn, Don Gordon, Simon Oakland, Georg Staford Brown and Vic Tayback. |
|
You don't seem to understand the difference between doing something for real and CGI enhanced bullshit. |

Lol "not even a microwave" I watch some of these movies and think how alien stuff I took for granted must look now.

You can see the same car get passed during the chase a couple of times I realized this and some other errors after seeing the film numerous times, not the director Peter Yates fault. They couldn't get permission to use the Golden Gate Bridge so they extended the chase scene by splicing the same scene. |
|
Over. Rated. Not bad but not the best out there. Most chase scenes are overdone for Hollywood. Point, the mustang was running an open rear. I read the trivia for the movie and the director had the posi removed so he could have long smokey one wheel burnouts. Shit like that just ruins it for me... |

You make it sound like a Ford 390 was going to burn rubber otherwise.
Here's some more disheartening Ford trivia. The Mustang was also given a hotter cam and it was still slower than the heavier Dodge. Watch the scene where after the downhill wall rubbing turn the Charger runs away from the stang. The Mustang's sound is a race car dubbed in, not the real thing. The Charger R/T and it's sounds are factory stock. |

Wait until a neighbor's teenage daughter asks you "How many songs are there on those big, black CD's??"......Referring to the vinyl records of years ago. (not bulshitting) After I stopped laughing I had to dig up an old record player and show her how they worked .. |
| I like the magneto sound of the police bike starting in the lower-level garage right after the fiery horn-blaring ending to the chase scene, and the whirring/tapping sound of the stone age fax machine at police HQ, and noise the airport crowd makes after Bullitt shoots the bad guy in the revolving door. Overall, it looks like a low budget flick made in a hurry but there is so much good stuff in it that I bought the VHS long ago, and then the DVD. I suppose it helps to have lived in the sixties and to have seen the original release at the drive-in. The Charger driver never said a word in the movie because because he was a stunt driver, and stunt people are forbidden to have speaking parts in movies. |

That's why the shifts sound so crisp and fast. |

Uh, dude......you just compared fast and frivolous to Bullitt.... Do they have drug testing where you work?
|
|
It's exciting but an extreme fantasy. Bullet is believable. |

The paper was nasty and they were hard to read. These things were slow too. |

The chase scene is good, historic is some respects. The rest of the movie doesn't make a lot of sense. The plot is a convoluted mess. Not really, it's simple. Ross was going to testify against the syndicate, he made a deal with Chalmers who had Frank Bullitt protect Ross before the trial, syndicate sent out the hit on Ross, only Ross wasn't killed it was a double who also happened to have a wife, the blonde in the hotel room. Ross is killed at the airport trying to getaway. Chalmers case falls apart without the witness. Then the punch line at the end with Chalmers cars bumper sticker which reads " Support your local Police ".
