What the hell is it?

Bump firing is using a firearms natural recoil to create full auto fire.  Do a  google search for "bump fire academy".

ETA: Right-click, save as.  Shows a way to bump fire an AR.

Turn your rifle into a bullet hose in 3 easy steps!

If I may, I'll go ahead and plug another member's site by reffering you to this video:
www.lifelibertyetc.com/RangeBag/Video/LLE_Bump_Fire_Academy.avi

Enjoy. That video is what taught me to do it. Now if only I could do it off the shoulder...

ETA: Damn! Beat me by 2 minutes!

When you do it, make sure you yell:

WOOOOOOOOOO!  I MISSED!

While you're at it, try and get a BATFE agent's attention so you can show off.  It's fun to piss them off.

BTW, bump firing will get you kicked off some ranges.

LOL, get you kicked off ranges, we have this one especially anal range that i dont go to when i can avoid it they have this one shot per year rule in full effect.... but as the owner of my local Gun shop says about the place "when its time to leave, its time to leave"

My MAK90 loves to bump fire.  Some people insist on using the thumb.  For me it works better using the trigger finger wrapped around my belt loop.  Of course with the AK you need to make sure you keep your thumb forward.  I've whacked it a couple times by lifting it up.  Doesn't tickle.

The point isn't aimed fire. Wait a sec, you knew that didn't you?

Killjoy. I'll bet you don't like kids either.

While I can't speak for Lumpy, it may be possible that he actually enjoys bump firing. Seriously, when I do it, it's not uncommon for me to yell "Damn, I didn't hit SHIT". That doesn't mean I'm not grinning ear to ear when I say it, or having a good time.

let the bottom of the stock rest on the web of your hand.. fingers loose only finger on trigger.. do not push against your shoulder witht eh butstock.. you can touch it.. but it needs to be able to rock back and forth... keep trigger hand and arm rigid in one spot so the gun moves back and forth but your hand and arm dont.. put constant forward pressure on the rifle with your weak hand on the handguards and let er rip.

see photo for hold..

I too can bump very easily from the shoulder probably the safest and most accurate way to bumpfire out of all the rest.

From the hip just isnt very accurate and can be all over the place..but not always.
From the hip the thumb through a belt loop has to be the most dangerous careless way ive ever seen it done before...would be pretty easy to lose grip on the front of your weapon in this fashion, making the weapon either tip muzzle up or down,..... and guess what?....Your thumb is still wrapped in your belt loop, Good way to blow your face/foot off.Not to mention possibly someone elses.

Thats just my 4 cents...yes 4,.. i took the sense off someone else that wasnt using it

You're my new hero for the day. I will try this at my earliest convenience. Do you keep your trigger finger loose?

Will the 20" HBAR hurt my chances?

i bump a lil differently from my hip.. i use my trigger finger again..but instead of putting my thumb into my belt loop..i wrap my hand around the pg loosly..i hook my thumb into my pocket.. making my thumb and finger a rigid C shape.. then pull forward on the gun.  I can be fairly accurate this way also... spraying at least.

no..your finger trigger needs to be rigid.. your essentially bouncing your trigger off your finger.  dunno, each rifle is different.. each trigger is different as well.

Touche! You are a slick-tongued devil with acerbic wit. I admire that, and you certainly know your high-end guns and the proper use of them. I stand in awe.

Scuse me, I have to go bump my Hi-Point now.
