Any of you been to the Burning Man festival in Nevada? If so was it worth it. Stories and Pics would help. |
I concur. Nothing better then watching random people fuck around for cheap laughs, thats basically all I do in college |
|
Wife's friend has been a couple of times - said friend is a German citizen so take that for what it's worth - and really enjoyed it. I go motorcycle riding at Black Rock Desert and stay at Soldier Meadows about 30-40 miles north of where Burning Man 'city' is located - I can't imagine spending a week on the playa - nasty, dirty, dusty, stinky. We drive across the playa to cut ~15 miles off the drive and it's some nasty stuff. Brian |

www.burningman.com For those who are unsure of what it is take a look around. |
If a team member googled "Critical tits" & posted some pics in the BOTD forum. I believe such an event might come together rather easily |

They use to allow ANYTHING and I've heard stories from the past that they used to have "fun" stuff like drive by ranges and flame throwers and cool things to blow up. But these days it's much more strict, and watered down. Like any lefty thing it starts out as total anti society anarchy with little or no rules, then as it grows it piles on so many rules that there's no counter culture about it at all. At this point it's my understanding that there are no guns allowed. My friend snuck his Glock 17 in last year and was even a little nervous as they did a "search" at the gate. Other than all the rules involved now, if you want to live in the desert for a week and be in the middle of a giant art show (where the money comes for some of the projects and setups I don't want to know) it can be kinda neat. Certain people I know really enjoy it, others of sort of grown out of it, and I had one friend I sent once without him knowing really what it was and he came back sort of unimpressed (which surprised me) Like was said before, the playa dust ruins everything, you will never really get it out of anything you take there. As far as doing a "shooting man" thing out in that area, it is extremely flat, so that does pose the issue of a suitable backstop. However, a few friends of mine may do something of that nature either just prior to or after burning man later this year :-) |
Put that pic in the "why I carry a gun" thread. |
That's Wicker Man, not Burning Man...kinda different. Wicker Man they burn someone as a sacrifice. Burning man they get naked, get stoned, have lots of smelly hippie sex.... I'd rather be burned as a sacrifice.... |
| Yep, early days, much more anarchist/Neal Stephenson sort of groove. Lots of fun. Went to 2 back when but got too commercial and overrun with hippies. Early sorts were not really hippies but... Not sure what to call them but they thought fire, explosions and weirdness was cool along with drugs of choice. Robo-wars types if that rings a bell with anybody. But smart and interesting types. Now-a-days it's a state fair for liberals with art degrees. Geez, My BOSS went last year... 180 shift really. |
| if you have someone who knows the festival go for sure. If you don't know anyone then take a tent, tp, lots of water, granola bars and pot and acid. If you don't take drugs I don't even know if you would want to go unless you like the whole hippy lifestyle and can tolerate people who THINK they are artistic. |
Yup. Know a ton of people from google who go. Half the people I saw were making over 80k a year, I only know because for some reason they were all willing to tell me how much they got paid "back home". |
I know, but whenever I see "Burning Man" I think of "Wicker Man." |
Heh, heh. The art-techies slumming. Yeah, then they get back and bitch about the noise and dust and shower the office with pictures of artcars and naked chicks on bikes. yawn. But the the newer artcars are pretty cool. Google and Apple will pre-buy half the sites this year I bet. |
A lot of these pics should look familiar to you then. This was from our summer desert trip in 2006. We're going back again this summer, one week each Death Valley, Black Rock and Great Salt Lake deserts. 2006 summer trip - BRD |
Look at the url of the pic, its from maidenfans.com |

*looking at the large semi-circle of cars & motorhomes and thinking* "where does all of the shit go?" Another thought: Has anyone brought up how much CO2 they release when they light up the man? I bet in the future they have a polar bear friendly "simulated burning man". |
Yessir, I've got a firm grasp on the obvious today...
