This was taken from my front yard about 5 minutes ago. Didn't get all of them in the picture at one time but there were six. The wide angle I used doesn't show how low they were very well either. You could read the tail numbers. This is actually pretty common at my house. I live maybe 10-15 miles from Pope AFB and I'm almost lined up perfectly down the runway. Just a few degrees off on approach.

Not sure what they were up to. This is the first time I was able to get a camera and take some pics. I see it all out here. We've had Air Force One over the house several times since moving here. I should keep a camera by the door. Usually we see them out back though as it is closer to the approach lane.

five in this pic, the sixth is almost directly overhead by the time I grabbed the camera.

Four in this shot. They'll make a slight turn before beginning the landing approaches.

Actually they will probably circle a while. They land one at a time while the rest make more loops. I can hear them coming back by as I type.

Used to live in Fayetteville, we were in Smith AAF's departure lane then, I much prefer the big planes at 1500-2500' than the helo's at treetop.

Awesome birds. I honestly think a quality recording of the interior would cure any case of insomnia.

Kind of loud living there?

Jumped out of those a time or 80.

Looks like a normal flight to the drop zone to me.

Nice!

I got a pic of this standing in my driveway, as 5 or 6 of these circled the neighborhood last year.

Six in formation heading for Pope more than likely means they were returning from an airdrop mission.

No, not really. I've always thought military cargo planes were almost spooky quiet for how big they are. Like I said this is worlds better than the helos at the last house.

I ETS'd over 20 years ago & to this day I still believe there is nothing that will put me to sleep faster than the drone of the C130.

"What they were up to?" It's and Air force base. Planes take off, fly and land. Sometimes one at a time, sometimes more than one. they do not have to be "up to something" besides training.

Unless of course they are taking pictures of you taking pictures of them. Then I'd be worried.

Yep, and I'll take a C-17 over a C130 any day.

OP, you must be in Spring Lake, or up near the NTA.  With your screen name, seeing large amounts of cargo aircraft shouldn't surprise you.
