I love mine. I've got a Galaxy 959 in my ride (type accepted 11m radio, not a converted 10m) topped with a Wilson 1000. It's useful for what it is, and not as useful as it used to be.

I have a radio shack chepo with a 1:2 matched antenna, and it puts out great in my truck, my home base unit is a Cobra 2000 with an antron 99 antenna.

Very active around here, and there is a group that is very much into shooting and AR15 rifles on Ch8

I have several. It was a big hobby of mine. I also have an A-99 on top of the garage. I have a cheap uniden in the car with a wilson 500, and I usually keep a handheld in the car in case I'm going to caravan with someone, I can give it to them for car to car communication. Makes long trips go by a lot quicker.

You talk on it, kinda like a short range cell phone, but without the monthly bill or the dropped calls.

Anywhere on earth if the conditions are right.

Average range is about 4 miles car to car with legal power and reasonable antennae.

I keep a Midland handheld with an external Radio Shaft mag mount antenna, and a cigarette lighter power adapter in my truck.  It's been very handy on road trips to keep abreast of traffic conditions.  Unfortunately Channel 19 is populated by retards who love foul language, to which I prefer not to expose my kids, so I'll turn it on to get traffic info then switch it back off.

I have my amateur radio license, so I also have a Yaesu VX-5RS 6M/2M/70cm ham rig.  Looking to put a better ham rig in the truck one of these days.  When conditions are right, I've hit my club's 2M repeater from about 40 miles away using only 5W of power.  My 2M/70cm antenna is a Diamond MR-77A mag mount.
