[ARCHIVED THREAD] - CCW For Wife Unit. (Page 1 of 2)
| Sig 938. 9mm SAO and the heavier slide makes it much easier to rack then the more predominately polymer guns like a PF9 or LC9. My wife could barely manipulate the Keltec PF9 slide and can do the 938 without any effort. The SAO trigger is easier for her to make consistent hits even out to 25yds. |

My wife carries an M&P9c like pictured except no safety and the Xgrip wrap for the 17rnd mags |

My wife CCW's a Kahr P380 (loaded w/Buffalo Bore +P 100gr hardcast) but also has a SIG P250sc in .380 as her range/nightstand gun. The SIG is much easier/pleasant for her to train with but the Kahr is significantly smaller/lighter for carry.
Let her try as many different pistols as you can and let *her* decide what she likes as it's better for her to have something (regardless of caliber/capacity, even if it's only a .22) that she likes and feels confident with than a handcannon she doesn't like and won't practice with. Tomac |

My wife carries an LCP.
She shoots it very well. It fits her hand perfectly, and it disappears when she carries it IWB. I think it's a fantastic carry gun for women. Every girl that has shot it loves it. What we think of as having more recoil, I've found, is mitigated a lot by fitting smaller hands a lot better. I can't stand shooting the damn thing, but my wife will shoot it all day long, and without any complaints. *shrug* |

Quoted: Thanks for all the responses so far. We're gonna have to try out a few different weapons and see what she likes best. I'll probably start her out with my G19 and go from there. She also needs to consider how she wants to carry it. I have a Keltec P3AT and a CZ75. I carry the P3AT in my purse everywhere, and occasionally carry it IWB. The CZ is my house gun and is in my nightstand. I don't like shooting the Keltec, but I have done it enough that I'm comfortable with it. Anything bigger is too heavy for my purse and can't be concealed IWB without wearing really baggy tshirts. I'm too vain for baggy shirts all the time. ![]() |
| Mine found a G-19 to be her CCW. Yours will need to figure out what fits and works best herself. Beyond picking the firearm training is the key, firearm safety and handling along with marksmanship are what most folks think about, but there should also be training on mindset of CCW and tactics of personal protection, my wife spent a week at Gunsite and I will say today she has all the pieces in place we now go shoot weekly working on it all. |

Thanks for all the responses so far. We're gonna have to try out a few different weapons and see what she likes best. I'll probably start her out with my G19 and go from there. Although I'm a Glock fan......I would NOT recommend a Glock for any new shooter and if you have been around for any length of time you know why. Try something in a DA ONLY.....or a wheel gun of your flavor to carry and use until experience is gained. STRESS her under fire (even a timer) will work initially but if she is going to CCW then her life and yours might depend upon the training she gets. Make sure it is good realistic training and not just standing at a bench "test firing" different guns at a paper target. Women can carry a wide variety of weapons easily depending upon outfit and build. This is both a blessing and curse. The curse side is that they have to be VERY competent with that wide variety of weapons first. A "safe action" handgun is NOT a newbie gun. Advice given for what you paid. |
