I need advise.
I want a Pistol for carrying. I sent in app for my CCW, but im still shopping for a new pistol. Soon i will get it the mail. I have a P-345 but I want some thing else. I really dont care what caliber it is. Help me out. |

The three best bets in the pistol market right now are:
- 3rd gen 9mm Glocks (4th gens are getting there) - S&W M&P - H&K P30 Pre-2005 Sigs aren't bad if you can find them. Post 2005 it gets sort of ugly because of Sig's QC issues. Avoid the P250 because it's horrible. Stick with 9mm for the caliber. It does everything you can reasonably expect a handgun to do and it's relatively cheap to feed...which means you can train more. Training matters. Buy a carry gun and an identical one as a backup and then spend money training. |

My only problem with iwb gen 4 glocks is it seems the texture would rub you raw could be wrong just opinion haven't tried to carry one myself. All of mine are g3's I don't think it's a problem. ...but then again, all my carry guns have sandpaper glued on them for extra grip, so YMMV. |

Its impossible to recommend one when you don't care what it is. Do you at least have a price range in mind? Single or double action? Revolver or semi-auto? How do you want to carry it? I'd say a trip to the gun store is in order. Fondle a bunch of them until you find one you like, then come back and ask questions about it. |

Lot depends on how you plan on carrying and what effort you are willing to take. Smaller is more likely to be carried, larger is more likely to be left at home. That said, if actually used, smaller is a whole lot less effective. Pocket semi's are the easiest to grab and go. Pocket revolvers are probably more reliable, and 38's are often considered the minimum effective caliber. If you are willing to wear a belt and holster, the sky is the limit. If not, I personally know that the Ruger LCR will fit in the Dockers of a fat man. |

This one rest in my back pocket. Its a .32, not primary but a bug |

Actually the new Smith M&P autos are pretty damn sweet and a good price. However I am a huge .357 Mag nerd so my next carry gun with be a Coonan Arms 1911-type. Looks like a big 1911, but she holds .357 Magnums. That is, after I put some rounds through her to make sure she's reliable. |
|
If it's gotta be one, right now, just get a Glock 19 and a couple of appropriate holsters. I have a trimmed down KHolster I like a lot, but people on here hate them - mine works fine. I usually just use a Galco Triton IWB for short trips.
If you want a metal pistol, DA/SA, it's a CZ P-01, or an EAA Witness compact as a close second. Practice with it, get good with it, and then go shopping for something you really like. No rush. I am still looking. |

I really dont care what caliber it is. Help me out. With you being in FL, consider your climate and the way you dress. If you wear shorts and a t-shirt you would be wise to look at a small pistol in a pocket holster. Anything larger in a IWB rig will require the proper clothing to conceal. |
| dont get a baby gun. it wont be any fun to train with, so you probly wont. get a med-full size gun that fits your hand. get the largest calliber that YOU can get fast, accurate, consistant hits with. if that is a full size Desert Eagle, a .38 wheel gun or a .45 1911 rock the shit out of it. it may be a pink LCP too, but what ever it is stick with that platform and get some profesional training. a carry gun is a personal choice, what fits my hand may not fit yours and vice versa. |

JW pretty much nailed it.
Define your requirements. 1. What threat are you arming against? 2. How much will you be able to practice? 3. How do you dress? 3. How much gun can you conceal? 4. Does the gun "fit" your hand? 5. What holsters are available for the pistol? How do you intend to carry? 6. Will you have to replace anything on the gun? (Sights, for example?) 7, Will anyone else have to use the gun if it a "house" gun? Do they have the strength to manipulate it? 8. How will you secure the weapon when it isn't in use? Oh, and here's a question. Are you ready to kill someone that threatens your life? |
