I need some info. Im in Indiana. I have a valid CCW permit. I plan on going to Kentucky for a week long fishing trip. The route planned to get to Kentucky involves going through Illinois. I know KY honors IN CCW, but IL doesnt.

Is there a legal way for me to take my handgun with me on this trip?

I'd call the Illonios State police and ask them if their state allows peaceable journey/passage. Something alone those lines. Anyways it means you keep a unloaded firearm in the trunk and make a beeline accross the state. Some states allow it.

Nyet.  All states allow it.  In fact, the reason you can't own a post-86 machine gun is the reason you can transport your cased, unloaded firearm across Illinois.  The Firearm Owners Protection Act.

Transport it through IL, cased and unloaded, but don't carry it until you're in a state that has reciprocity with your CCL.

Yep put it in a case unloaded in your trunk while you are in IL and you are good.
