Ok so I get all kinds of requests to buy stuff I post on CL that I know are scams. Usually ask if Item is still available, I tell them it is, then they say they want to purchase for someone else in another state or they are out of country, blah blah blah.

So how are they scamming? specifically through paypal? Do they hack into your paypal after you give them your email for the account?

I am guessing they send you the money through paypal, you end up sending item to whatever address they say they want it sent too and then they turn around and say they never recieved item (but really have) and get their money back through the claim?

Reason I ask this is because I get this A LOT! Today I get a text from someone asking about two latptops I have.

guy: do you stil have the two laptops for sale?
me: Yes I do
guy Ok great, I am interested
me: ok where are you located and how do you plan to pay?
guy: CA. Do you have paypal?
me: No (really I do)
me: how about you send me a certified check from your personal bank?
guy: so you want a check?
me: yes
guy: Ok, would you do western union?
me: No I prefer a certified check from your bank
guy: I can't afford a check
me: You can't afford $0.44 stamp to send me a check?
guy: I wont send a check
me: ok I won't send laptops.

edit- forgot he also mentioned somewhere in there that he wanted to send these to his sister in some other state, which is what sent up a red flag
