Sound like I am being scamed on a bike want to know how it works

The last e-mail

I will be making the payment now but will include the shippers fee cause i got a feed back email from the Auto shipping company not long ago that they only receive their payment through Money gram.I prefer sending it to their PayPal account but they made me understand that they only receive customer's funds through Money gram.So i will add the shippers fee to your payment now, the shipper fee is $300 but I will be adding $400 to the payment i will be making to you via PayPal.I will need you to help me send the exact amount of $300 to the mover via Money gram after I have sent the funds to your PayPal account and you have received the confirmation of payment from PayPal. The additional $100 will take care of the Money gram charges . Let me know if I can trust you to have the excess fund sent to my mover if included in the payment that will be transferred to you. I will make the payment once I hear back from you. Thanks

how does this scam work if it is one

Their payment is fake.  You probably wouldn't find out until after you send the $300.

You send them $300 and they send you jack shit.

A scam. Never do anything on Craigslist or Autotrader unless face to face cash. They try to entice you with extra $ but it never is real. Checks, money orders, other payment means and certified payments bounce.

This one is a sure bet ripoff.

I have a truck listed on CL right now. One dude asked for a picture of the engine, then replied that he could see the vehicle was mechanically sound. He then pasted almost the same scam you listed here.

It is all BS. Their payment is fake and will be reversed. You will be out the $400.

This is a scam.  Moneygram is one giant red flag for scams.   Wondering how it will go down?

Like this you will get an email from "Paypal" about the payment.   He will want you to quickly send his "shipper" a Moneygram.   Only problem is that was a fake Paypal email you got.

Craigslist paypal overpayment scam.

It is a scam.

Their payment will be fake, usually drawn on a small bank in the middle of nowhere. It will take a couple weeks for the payment to get settled in the banking system (e.g. the "float"), and when it gets to the that small bank, they will (rightly so) confirm it's a bogus check -- even if it's a cashiers check, they can be fake.

In the meantime, you're using the money you thought you had to buy moneygram -- a one-way, irreversible payment method -- to be sent to the shipper. The "shipper" is in on this, and likely is actually the guy you're emailing on CL.

So you get a fake check, he gets $300 cash, and then the check bounces and you're out $300, and he's got his money anonymously.

This is known as "advanced fee fraud." It's literally one of the most common frauds on the internet.

Thank you. I knew something was wrong but did not know how it worked.

I am trying to sell my 2011 Z1000 2200 miles for $3k (needs some work) on CL but i guess thats going to be a wash. Were is the best place to sell motorcycles? I was thinking about seeing if a dealer will buy it and they can fix it at cost who knows.

You can use CL. Just ignore anyone who doesn't have cash. And even then bring one of those counterfeit markers.

Good luck.

Sell it on advrider.com.  Lot of motorcycle enthusiasts there and if it's a halfway good deal it will be sold right away.

ETA:  You have to make an account there before you can see the 'flea market'.  That place is to motorcycles what arfcom is to firearms.

Sell it on Craigslist. Cash only. Must exchange in person. As soon as someone suggests a check, etc., tell them you won't do business that way. You will inevitably get some assholes who try to scam you or offer a trade. Ignore them. It's the cost of doing business.

This has been a scam on several sites.
Are people still being duped?
I say screw with them
Ask for a screenshot from when they send the PayPal funds.
Tell them you are out of town and won't be able to complete the transaction for a week, but send money now.
Talk to the police and ask them to set up a paypal account for the transaction.
Ask them to send you a current bank statement showing their name and address.

You are not supposed to pay the person you sell something to. They should be giving you money, not the other way around.

Not really. 99% of them will just stop replying once they get the slightest sniff that you aren't a gullible 75 year old grandma.
