Anybody here a cable installer?  I'm talking about cable TV or satellite.  Saw a job on Cragslist that I'm thinking about.  It'd be a 1099 type contractor position.  Looks like it basically entails setting up cable TV lines at customer's homes.

I fucking hate working in customers homes.

I've only installed inside telephone wiring... but I hate it.

Lemme outside to go bury it where I can tell everyone to fuck off I'm doing it my way and its the right way

I used to be an installer for a company that was eventually bought by Cable-vision (a long time ago). It's pretty much mindless monkey work.

If they're hiring you as a 1099 contractor you will need your own truck, tools (drill, wire snake, cutters, etc), & fiberglass ladders. They're probably also going to ask you to produce proof that you have your own business insurance.

How much do they pay?

The ad said $800 to 1500 a week, but I know expenses and taxes would eat probably half of that.

My dad is a main line tech and has been in the industry for 30+ years.  He makes close to $50,000 a year.

This might give you an idea on pay...

Pay may vary depending on what cable company owns your local market.

I have talked to several independant sat dish installers in my area and most of them get screwed with massive drive time between jobs and they get payed by the job
