I'm in Calc 1 and not doing so great, mainly trig functions are confusing me.
The book we use is Thomas Calculus Early Transcendentals 12th edition. I'm on Chapter 3.
I had an A in precalculus but the class I'm in for calc is set up way different.
No online MathXL program which I really liked, just graded on tests and quizzes.
I am a business student so this is my last math course.
Can you guys recommend a guide, book or program to help? Maybe something I could buy on Amazon?
I guess I'm really looking for detailed explanations. I like to see each step.
Maybe someone I could email questions once in a while.
Wouldn't mind sending pmags or something someones way for some tutoring.
Couch you out there? I think you helped me before.

Also just use the search in youtube. You can find tons of videos.

Feel free to post questions on here. I've also had luck with getting the solutions manual, and using that while studying. Do everything you can to figure out the problem without the solutions manual, and check your answers when you're finished. Or, it comes in handy when you're just plain stuck

Try to find it for your book, and post a few questions here. Good luck

+1 on Khan Academy. Has practically everything you need to know about any given subject.

Where are you at right now in the material?  I'm currently learning the shortcut rules for derivatives.  I'm doing pretty well so far.  My biggest problem seems to be the algebra in simplifying the derivatives of the more complex composite functions.  I think I've opened my book less than five times so far this semester.  Oh well, at least I won't have to buy another one for Calc 2.

In addition to the mentioned resources, make sure you visit your professor during office hours and use as much of their time as you feel necessary.

Not only will this help you understand the material better, but you'll have a closer relationship with the professor and they'll be more likely to help you out as the semester progresses.

95% of students do not do this, ever.

I used calculus for dummies, it has good explanations and I learned a lot from it.

Thanks guys. PatrickJMT videos on Youtube are really helping me.

His website it JustMathTutoring.com

He relays his info in an easy to understand manner and shows steps which I think was confusing me the most at class.

Still going to check out a few books as well.

I have a masters in applied math, I used to teach classes with full responsibility, and I was a business calc tutor for several years.  I am happy to help.

I'm also in Calc 1 which has been easy compared to Physics 1. I think it has a lot to do with the professors though.

Were on Chapter 5 now Thomas's book it's Integration.

Got an 83 on my last test, it was a take home lol. My teacher is a hard grader, likes everything and every step shown. But I missed maybe 1 question totally and some minor points off others. 10 questions 10 pts each.

As long as I can pass with a C I'm happy. This is my last math class ever, hopefully.

Wolframalpha and other online derivative calculators are very helpful for checking work. But I guess what I learned most this class

is that a strong algebra background is necessary to doing well. Trig background helps too.

Will try to post a few examples this weekend.

Hopefully everyone else is having a good semester who is still in school.

Get a TI89 titanium and you can check all your work. I have been watching PatrickJMT videos and the IntegralCalc youtube channel.

I don't know about other schools, but the Ti-89 is a no go for Calc 1 at my school.  Buying one just to check homework is kind of expensive when Wolfram Alpha will do the same.

Not to hijack the OPs thread, but will the aforementioned resorces help someone that's 32 years outta HS and 30 years since I CLEPed outta Algebra?

I'm trying to register for Calc I in the spring and have to take an assessment test first.

I would buy a Algebra and Precalc textbook and work through them. You can also use the video sources.
