First we elect the only Republican Mayor within the top ten cities in the country, now we are winning on gun legislation? What's next, are they going to reduce our taxes?

California's problems have more to do with the structure of politics in the state, ie not having a competitive Republican party.  A few anecdotal wins does not equate to a change in the politics of the state.  Gun rights victories in California will not be initiated by the legislature, but most likely by the courts if we are lucky.

I know. Guess I'm something of an optimist. The issues are wide ranging.

There is no doubt that these are very good things, and the courts deciding in our favor is definitely a positive step.  That being said, the severely gerrymandered way that the districts have been rigged, and the complete dominance of the Democrats bodes very poorly for California.  The only thing that can save gun rights in California are the courts, and there is a good chance we will not get everything we want.

The public labor unions still own the most populous state in the union.

They are organized and buy as many politicians as they need to get their will.
