What caliber for carpenter ants?  I have been seeing them all over the house, in increasing numbers.  I can't seem to find any trail leading into the house, and I have looked a few times.  There does not seem to be a spot in the house where I see them more than others.  Is there anything I can do besides calling a professional?  If I have to, I will but I would like to take matters into my own hands before letting a stranger have free roam of the house.  Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so what was the solution.

I don't know anything about ants, but Mulle Meck knows what to do: (15 seconds in)

Get them in a union.
That will stop them from doing anything......

Get out credit card, go to domyownpestcontrol.com,  go shopping. I had them a few years back. Paid a pro a good amount of money to treat the house, and he wrote down everything he used. Since then I've been treating with the same stuff he used. You want a non-repellant poison and a good pump sprayer.

ETA: You're in NY, I don't think they'll ship the good stuff to you.  Email me if you need help.
