Got in a rifle at the shop today (trade in), the owner asked me what we should put on it.

It is a actually a M-39, cosmetically it is near perfect except some stock repair that appears to be factory. Then there is the bore, it's trashed. I said to still put 150.00 on it any way. It is stamped 1931 and has clear SA cartouche as well as a "T" in a triangle. Tula armory?

sorry no pics, forgot to take some before I left, we wont put it up until tomorrow, so tell me if I blew it on the price. Like I said she is in great shape except for the bore, thoughts?

I don't consider myself the friggin' master of the Nagant, but I have seen quite a few (and own one of my own). With the trashed bore 150 sounds reasonable to me - you can get them on Aimsurplus.com for something like eighty bucks, but you don't get to see them in person first - and they might not be as old. 1931 outdates mine by thirteen years. I think you're safe with your current number.

First of all, a Nagant is a pistol, a Mosin Nagant is a rifle. Second of all, if it is an M39, it is a Finnish rifle and they typically bring more money than the Russian Mosin Nagants do. Here is a link to give you an idear of what they are going for. Other than that, I got nothing for you. Hope that helps.

Tula is an arrow in a triangle.

A T in a triangle is Tikka.  That goes with it being an M-39.

Go after your bore with a brass brush and some Flitz and oil and then normal solvents, copper and powder.

I'm betting it will clean up better than you think.

You can look at the underside of the tang of the reciever (must take stock off) and it will show the original (Russian) manufacture date.  The Finns never made recievers they just used Russian ones.

Post or IM if you have any other questions.

IMO, the M-39 is the best Mosin made.

You did fine for $150.

That would be high for a run of the mill 91/30 however.

I havee been seeing M-39's around in good condition from $150.00 to $200.00

I have been told that the M-39's were actually Soviet Nagants  that were captured during the Russo/finnish War and they were retooled and refinshed by Sako. Don't know if this is fact tho.

I know a guy who got a bargain on a M39 once.  The rifle was a good shooter, much better than the guy pulling the trigger.  If it had a decent bore I would drive to your shop and buy that gun.  But I got an M38 Carbine already, so I would rather spend it on hookers and blow, even though the 39 was the best Mosin made.
