I have my Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-Ray player connected to my FIOS router directly.  There is also a WAP in client mode connected to the wireless, and my PC is attached to it.  PC can get on the Internet no problem.  Blu-Ray can find the PC, but rejects any username / password I give it to access my movie share.  I created a user "bluray" password "bluray" and gave it read access to the share but it won't fly.  Windows Firewall is off.  My laptop, unfortunately, is from work and on a domain, and so won't connect to the home workgroup for me to test.  What else could I be missing?

check the permissions on the share. also make sure your network is set to home or work mode and file and print sharing on the nic is enabled.

Disable the Guest account.

Right click "my computer" ->manage->local users and groups->users - >right click at "guest"->disable.

or vie Control panel,if yours Windows is "home" edition.

your username may need to be (domain)\username

and that slash is the elusive backslash, located above your enter key

Check the settings on your Windows personal firewall, or turn it off to test.  If you can connect with it off, that is your issue.  You will need to turn the firewall back on and configure it to allow access.

You can test the share with your domain computer by using .\%username%.

Are you sure the samsung doesn't require DNLA to be setup on the "server"?

This.

I'd be surprised if it used straight up SMB file shares - it's probably DLNA - which means you need to setup WMP11+.

What version of Windows is running on the PC?

No, it does SMB / CIFS.

That is bad-ass- I will be looking at that BluRay Player.  Make sure you come back and tell us how you like it.

In some versions of windows, I believe that there are two sets of permissions, one on the folder/files, and one on the share. Be sure that you have permissions setup correctly for the individual folders/files, as well as for the share that you setup.

It was awesome when it worked!  At my last place I had my PC next to my TV, so I just connected the second video to the TV and used VLC to display shows directly.  But I can't do that where I am now.

I was Googling around, and found a couple of references to people having to set up the info for the share manually instead of automatically.  I'll try that.
