How is this system?  Will it replace a ruck?

Had one in Kosovo.  Good stuff.  Gave it to my roomie when I un-assed.  enough room for my helmet, flak, water, etc., etc., etc.

Not going to be like an ALICE large, but it's big enough.

I have a Camelback Mule in old school woodland.

It's a well made pack, not the best, but more than good enough.

The hydration is what sells it for me. Pretty good camo too.

Got one.  Serious gear, lots of useful pockets, without getting too specialized or gimmicky ect.  I really like the plate btw you & pack contents.  so shit doesn't get crushed

I wouldn't change a thing

A better way to go is to get the Camelback Motherlode and use additional pockets and add a framesheet.  If you have access to the framesheet from a MOLLE patrol pack it will work well with a little trimming.  Otherwise any sheet plastic can be cut to fit.

The SAW drum pouches make excellent side pouches and are a little bigger than the sewn on side pouches on a BFM.

I definitely think that you will be better served with a Motherlode and added MOLLE pouches than a BFM with integral pouches.

A filled (but not stuffed) Motherlode is right at max size for an airline carry on bag too.

Regardless, all the Camelback stuff is good kit, will last a long time.

I've used the BFM on the job since 2003.  It made it through OIF, OEF and 10 months so far on the job in Korea.  Its a well made pack and its tough as shit.  All mines done is fade a bit.  Buy the BFM and you wont go wrong.

Mine survived 2 years in Kabul with no problems. Very good stuff.
