I have a canon rebel xs (1000D I think it also went by) that I have had for several years when I was doing camera shoots for fun. Put it away for a few years. Wife has now picked up wanting to learn. OK Sure, here just learn on my camera before we buy anything. OEM Battery was shot and would stay red on the charger overnight, ok buy a new one, off to Amazon - simple and quick. Now I am having issues with the Camera not wanting to turn on at times. BUT, when I pull the battery close the door, turn the camera on, knob to P, and press and hold the shutter button, release the button, turn camera off, replace battery, camera turns on like it should. All doors are closing fine and hitting the button inside. The lens is seated properly. Looking at the OEM battery it is 7.4v, the Kastar replacement found on Amazon is a 7.2v. Could the difference in volt cause my issue? Bad battery? Old SD Card causing it? Am I missing something? I also did find the last supported Firmware is of 1.0.7 that I could see around online for this camera. Moved up from 1.0.6. Seems the camera is turning off and on like it should. Was this just a weird hiccup with the camera?! |

What you report is not particularly surprising. I've got a Canon EOS1 that had the dreaded BC (battery check) error. Camera comes on but refuses to fire. I did fix it in the end. EOS1 a lot different than yours, but conventional wisdom was to clean all the contacts especially battery, even the ones between the body and the lens. Alcohol and a fiber brush, wiped down with alcohol and a soft cloth. You've got nothing to lose. Also check YouTube with your exact symptoms and camera model. There may be a common problem that has some fixes. For example, the Canon EOS1 BC error fix involved using rare earth magnets to trigger a solenoid near the lens mount. Woulda never guessed that without a hint from YouTube. |

Woulda never guessed that without a hint from YouTube. @d4xycrq Just updating. I went though cleaned every connector etc. Still same thing. Tried a different stock oem battery same thing. Tried different lens. Same thing. Almost saying hell with the damn thing. BUT just for the hell of it, I refreshed the firmware. Basically uploading the same (last released for the camera) back onto the camera. Since doing that, it has been working fine! Zero issues with any of the batteries. |
