I'm looking to buy my oldest son an entry level camera.  Not a point and shoot camera, a step above that, nothing professional, just something that he can change lens and make specific settings.  Doesn't have to be new.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Nikon D40 with an 18-55 kit lens and a nice 32 gig sd card. couple hundred used and he'll do fine.

Nikon D70 or D70s, kit lens, should be $200 or so, and is plenty of camera for a beginner.

Another vote for used D70.

Entry level Canon Rebel or Nikon equivilamt would be my choice. I personally prefer Canons but nothing is wrong with Nikon, stick with those two and your son will be served well.

Another vote for Nikon. I like the D7000, but it may be a little towards the higher end for your purposes.

Canon Rebel with the two lens kit....it's a great starting point.
